    Hey guys,
    really want to buy Opus bundle, sounds amazing but want to know if my computer (Mac G4, 1.25gHz (1.5 GB RAM)) has enough juice (CPU) to get good results out of the Opus Bundle stuff for medium to large orchestrations????? Want to come on board, so any advice, reply or advice would be great. Thanks. HR.

    Unlikely - you may need to load up more ram if possible - or move on to a G5 2.0 or upwards.

    i might be a little way off getting a G5, so do you think if i bump up RAM i could get some better Opus Bundle VSL reults? Hope so. Maybe?? Still paying off the G4...it sux. i have a knack for making big purchases (G4 2 months b4 G5 came out) at the wrong time. Ha! Anyone, anyone??? thanks, HR.

    The legato patches in VSL tend to use up a lot of ram - a G4 is OK and there are plenty of film/tv writers here that still use and have them (G4's) AFAIK.
    I can't remember what, if any, the ram limit is for a G4. If you can get it up to around 3 or 4 gigs - all well and good. I don't know if there is a limit to what DP can see either - mostly nowadays, Mac users use Logic with EXS24 and that can see around 3.25 gigs - on top of that you have the operating system and maybe processing tools like reverb etc. So the ideal in a G5 certainly at the moment is around 4.5 gigs plus. I mention this because you say you are interested in large orchestrations.

    I run a single proc 933 G4 with 1 gig RAM and manage some fairly complex arrangements in Logic, but I expect to freeze tracks down regularly, particulary if I use any leg-perf instruments. I am waiting very impatiently for a gap in our financial commitments so I can splash on a G5 - but like you, this is a way off.

    I run a Powerbook 1.25 with 1.5Gb ram, and it's slow or stops completely sometimes, which is annoying. Having said that, since 7.1 seems to keep samples out of memory once a track is frozen and the song closed then re-opened, things seem much better!

    I'm in the same boat, really want a G5 but can't justify it at the minute, though I will need to jump soon having just gone from Opus 1 to Pro Ed!

    You can't. The max you can install in a mirrored drive G4 is 2GB.

    If your G4 1.25 DP is dual-boot it would fetch actually quite a high price on ebay, as it's the fastest machine that still runs OS9 and therefore quite in demand. I recently paid over £800 for one. You could probably pick up a G5 refurb or similar for around £1000 or a new one for £1190+VAT (in UK).
