  • Depths with VST GigaPulse

    Hi to all
I'm working now for two weeks with VST GigaPulse. And I'm very happy with this convolution reverb.
Until now I often fiddled around with SIR, Pristine Space, or even Sampliude to get a "near" and a "far".
Now it is very easy to create the "orchestra depths".

I invite you to visit my home page and listen to 2 examples:
    (Large Hall, Small Hall).

    Have fun

  • Thanks for the link Beat. Just wish that My logic program had an effect like this. Can anyone recommend a good reverb for logic. Does Altiverb 5 do all this. Or is it just worth waiting for MIR to come out.

    Once again thanks Beat.

  • To me the problem with the giga pulse rererb as it stands now is that they have very little colouration to them. They simply add a nice but "too clean" tail to the sound. I think they (tascam) said there were 3rd party impulses in the works but I haven't heard of any yet. I worked with giga pulse quite a lot including depths and even went so far as to use 7-8 instances (left righ front middle back) but it never dramaticly improved the results of the mix. In the end I found it wasn't worth the trouble. However, I think the right impulses would make all the difirence. I think that's where MIR is going to blow away everyone. Really great sampling of great colourful spaces in done in such away that the position really will make the sounds fit into a space in a way we haven't heard yet.

    Hi Hetoreyn
...Yes and more I believe! And like magates said in the upper post:

    I completely agree.

But what I've noticed is, that GigaPulse works with imported IRs as well.
So if you take ambiance IR-s you get nearly the same effects.
I set another two examples on my homepage but with impulses outside
Gigapulse (Listen to these IRs first).

    To the Gigapulse Depths

For Logic it is the Space Designer Tool, SIR, Pristine Space, Waves or ...

extraordinary website. thanks. i am amazed at the clarity of the recordings

  • Hi Beat,
Great sounds especially Ombra mai fu and partita in E. What is a 4front_auxiter and is there a similar tool in the logic software? If you are not familiar with logic , a description of the auxiter will help and I will try to find a logic analogue.

    Hi Stephen
    Thank you for the compliments!
As a "windowser" I own Logic 5.5. With this version you have a similar effect to 4front's Auxiter called "EXITER". It is an effect which enhance the high frequencies by adding overtones. I'm sad, that I can't use all the good effects of Logic since Emagic said good'by to us windows users. I always was happy with Logic's effects also with this exiter-effect!

  • Hi Beat,
Thanks for the information. I applied the exciter in logic to the solo strings vln, vla and vcl in the mix I am working on and the effect does enhance the presence of the solo instrument even dry. I also tried your mixing different depths using space designer. I don't have the chamber strings so I used the pro edition string sections to mix with the solo strings. It enhances the complexity to the sound considerably.
Do you use a lot of the larger section to enhance the solo instrument or a somewhat smaller amount? A second question concerning the velocities of the notes. When using for example a solo violin do you try to limit the range of the velocities and the maximum velocities used? I notice that with the setup you describe it is easily distorted by too much velocity.

No, I never set limits apart from the final mix output section (Audio-limiter).
If you notice an easy distortion: Try do reduce the sensitivity of your audio system (>for example the input channel of the soundcard/software) > better results?
