  • new vsl user, could use some help

just bought, Opus 1 and 2. Im a bit confused in creating an intellegent template for music. I checked out beats tutorials. Im not sure i understand all the keyswitches with performance legato. and Does performance legato only work under certain sample sets? Im experianced with the samples that came with gigastudio orchestra, but when it comes to this new equipment im completly lost. is there any idiot guides out there. im kind of under pressure to learn this stuff, considering im a college student with composition assignments building up, as well as 3 proffesional gigs needing vsl. I wrote a huge symphony with the samples included with giga, whats the best way to transfer it over to the "better" samples utilizing more .expressiveness. Is there any tech support i can reach over the phone? If it helps here is my current set up
Computer - Carrillon AC Core 4
SoundCard - RME hammerfall DSP 9632
    Host - Gigastudio 3.10
Sequencer - Fruityloops 5 producer edition (i know thats unusual)
    Keyboard Roland V-synth

o yea and i program all my music via mouse clicks, not recording midi data.

Firstly, for Performance instruments you need to use the Performance Tool. If you haven't registered your products and downloaded this tool then read no further until you do it...!

Secondly, keyswitches; there are basically 3 with the Perf legato instruments. One causes an alternate sample to be played; this is used when you have to repeat a note and don't want a new "start" note. The second switch causes the next note to be silent. There are various uses for this, so read the information in the manual. The third switch causes a small release sample that you can use with the last note of a phrase in order that the end of the note doesn't finish abruptly (or with a fake release time).

It does take time to become efficient at working with all this, and of course with GS3 there are enhancements like being able to crossfade between dynamic layers of Perf instruments.
