Need last second advice on what to buy

Hi

So I'm planning to make use of the nice summer sale, spend some hard earned cash and finaly get going with VSL. [:D]

I was orignally thinking about getting the Opus 1/2 bundle and some Horizon products (I was thinking maybe French Oboe, Epic Horns, Solo Strings and Woodwind Ens.) to really make the best use of the sale possible.

However, I just realized that the with the amount of Horizon products I plan to buy, I would end up paying roughly the same as for the First Edition Complete Package. [:P]

So, my question is simply: Should I get opus 1/2 and the Horizon products, or should I go for the First Ed Complete?

At this time I have only one computer (AMD64 3500 w. 2 GB RAM and Delta 66 soundcard), but I'm getting yet another one shortly with the same specs or better.

Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

I think the answer is it depends. The first edition is fantastic, but it does not contain extension instruments like pc, eng hn, bs cl, cbn and maybe some others i cant remember off the top of my head. If you need everything, you'll have to go with the Opus stuff. On the other hand, the difference between the opus and symphonic editions are audible. I think I would first buy opus to have all the instruments, then immediately upgrade to first edition (if that's something vsl will let you do within the summer sale), then you can add other instruments as you need them. Either way, you are going to be very happy.

Thank's for your reply.

Upgrading from the Opus to First Ed deosn't seem to grant any discounts, at least not according to the discount calculator. That means if I buy the Opus and Horizon products, I'll still have to pay full price for the Complete First Ed.

Since I can't afford both at full price right now, it's more a case of "either or" I'm afarid. When I say "full price", I of course mean whithout discount due to previously purchased products.

When Opus 1 was released there were some people who would have wanted to exchange their First Edition to the Opus 1. It is really that great balance between features and price. Then again it isn't discounted in the Summer Special offer. If you plan to upgrade to the Pro Edition soon (within months) I would personally recommend getting the First Edition as that way you can get the Pro Edition cheaper than with upgrading from the Opus 1. Otherwise you might be happier with the Opus 1 as it has a wider variety of instruments even if the articulations are more basic. That way you would also have the money for other Horizon products and they should also count when getting the full Cube (after it is released) even if most of them won't give you any discount when buying the Pro Edition.

I see your point, appreciate you taking your time for my dilemma. Seems it is generally a question of a wider vareity of instruments (Horizon) vs more articulations and detail (Complete Package). Furthermore, hopefully (as you say), most of the Horizon products (or all of them?) would also qualify you for a discount on the full cube, once it's released.

This is a bit tricky to calculate since there are so many parameters to consider. [:P]

If I for example would buy First Ed Complete now and upgrade a few months later to Pro Ed Complete, then (if I unerstand it correctly) I would have to pay the regular upgrade price (First Ed -> Pro Ed) which is 2085€.

If I check the upgrade price from Opus 1/2 and Solo Strings (which I'm planning to buy) to Pro Ed Complete, the discount calculator lands at 2493€.

However, I'm not sure if the latter upgrade price is affected by the summer sale or not. But if it's not, then the upgrade from First Ed Complete to Pro Ed Complete, would almost cost as much (difference of roughly 400€) as upgrading from opus 1/2 and Solo Strings to Pro Ed Complete. If all I gain is around 400€ from going directly from First Ed to Pro Ed, then it might not be worth the rush.

Does anyone know if the upgrade price (calculated by discount calculator) from Opus 1/2 and Solo Strings to Pro Ed Complete will be different after the end of the summer sale?

As the deadline of the summer sale is drawing near and I need to place my order very soon, any info/advice regarding this would be much appreciated.

Yes, the price of the Pro Edition will be the "old one" again after the summer sale (from now 70% to 100%).

VSL is being straight with us by not lowering the amount of discount when the price of the product is lowered. This way all Opus 1 owners get 990 € off when upgrading to the Pro Edition even if some of them have paid 990 € and some only 845 €. Of course the upgrade price is higher after the Summer Classics deal is over.
