    Hi

    Does anyone of you could have the ghost key working with the legato mode?
    I can't.

    Note: I use gigastudio 2.5.

    Yes, on all 3 GS3 machines and yes on my 2.5 machine. Do check that your sequencer names middle C as C4, as some don't. Do the other keyswitches work (repeat note and release sample)?

    DG, your posts are always very helpful. Could you remove some of the mystery that surrounds this part of the Performance Tool by giving examples of how you use the Ghost, Repeat Note and Release Sample in real-world situations?

    I would be most appreciative.

    It's all pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

    Ghost; to be used when you want the transition to the next note to be legato, but not hear the original note. An example would be if I wanted a sfz note followed by a normal note. If I just play the following note using a legato patch I get a "start" note, i.e. no legato transition. By using a Ghost note I can join two different sounds together as if they were the same legato instrument (obviously on different MIDI tracks!).

    Repeat note; when you have the same note twice and you don't want to hear a start attack for both. Hold down the repeat key as you play the repeated note and it uses an alternate sample. FWIW I sometimes use this for an alternative to the start note, just for a change!

    Release note; at the end of a phrase when you take your hand of the keyboard the sound stops abruptly. This can make the ends of phrases sound very dead. By holding the RS key just before you take you finger off the key it triggers a tiny note with a natural ambiance which is seamlessly joined to the previous note.

    These can all be used in real time as you are playing, or entered afterwards if you prefer. The only really stupid (IMO) thing about these keyswitches is that they are different for the Horizon series than the Pro Edition Performance Set, which often causes me to make a mistake when playing. Easily fixed, but such a shame that this is the case.

    What I didn't know is that the ghost key must be pressed at the moment the starting note is played. I tried to use it like a keyswitch.

    But I re-read the docs and this element is not clear. You should apply a correction to the PerfTool manual, mentionning that the Ghost/Repeat/Release triggers must be on while the desired note is pressed.

    Hi,

    we are of course interested in any improvements. This is what the manual says:

    An example: In your sequencer, you record a three bar legato passage in piano (soft), using legato performances. But you want a strong accent on the first note of this passage, instead of the now recorded piano tone. So you decide you want to use a fortepiano tone from the "Special Dynamics".

    In this case you put a ghost function key prior to the first note. Now the first note won't be played, but the second note still has the right transition from the ending of the (now silent) first note to the second note.
    Now you copy this first note to the MIDI track that is to play the fortepiano note. (Leave the muted note in the legato track, as the second legato note still needs to know where the transition comes from!) Playing both MIDI tracks, you will get the proper transition from the fortepiano note to the legato passage.


    We know that it is a little tricky in the beginning to understand the use of the Function Keys, that´s why we provided Video Tutorials, and the Ghost Function Key is also used in the free promotional video (when the Legato system is explained):

    We thought that it is quite clear that if you want to mute a tone, you have to tell the system to mute the note BEFORE you play it and that you have to keep it pressed until you want to hear the sounds again...

    We will be grateful for any help and suggestion you can provide.
