  • Using VSL

    Hi! everyone,
I got Gigastudio a couple of months back and later bought Epic horns of the Horizon series. So, at the moment I am using two P4 computers one with Pro Tools LE and the other with Giga with a GSIF 2 sound card. I have a few questions about using VSL.

At the moment, I have default samples that came with gigastudio. They are good but obviously, I cant use different articulations. Also, I was thinking, may be I am not using the library to its fullest and in the best way possible. I just play the samples from my keyboard and record onto each track in Pro Tools.

However, I keep reading about the use of MIDI and MIDI programming. And I really want to start using it. Is this a good way of using the samples - playing back just from the keyboard? Are there are other ways? I just keep adding one instrument after the other in each track - are there better ways to record?

I have very little knowledge of music theory and I am trying to learn as much as I can. When I play chords with the strings (Violin or Viola) its good but at times there are notes that are not all playable at one time with both hands because they need instant change of position - Is it advisable to put notes on top in seperate tracks? And is that is in fact the correct way? And when I release the keys, the strings just suddenly stop - does not sound very real - May be in Opus and other such libraries - there is a release control thing that helps get rid of this - yes?

I am going to buy the OPUS bundle as suggested by many of you here. And I want to utilise MIDI to the fullest for best results with VSL or any other means. Where should I start? Any tips or advice regarding the use of VSL? Just like an overview - I get confused by detailed information at times.

Also, I want to start scoring short videos/films - what is the best way to do that? What software do people use for that to create hit points and score in real time with a film in the program itself which is locked with what I am playing back from the sequencer? In Pro tools LE - I cant use Aux tracks and stuff when the video is playing back. I know I have asked a lot of questions - but here is the only place I can ask all of this.

I hope some of you will take the time to reply and give me some advice.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

Yeah, but this is the fun kind of learning where you're excited about your discoveries and so are your peers when you share new things... not the kind of learning that's tedious uninspired busy work.
