    Okay, I have a 88 weighted Yamaha P-60 keyboard that I love. The only problem is it doesn't have a modwheel. And I'm realizing more and more the need for one in order to perform smooth sounding crescendos and what not. Does anybody know of a modwheel that plugs in similar to the way a sustain pedal does? I made the mistake of going to guitar center this weekend only to find that not only did they not have anything like that, but they didn't know of anything either. I suppose worst case scenario is I get one of those little keyboard controllers for whenever I need to use the mod, but it would be nice to use my better keyboard...

    the only external continuous controller i know is kurzweil's expression mate - but that's not actually a modwheel and it's not really cheap either. however, a small 2-octave keyboard is that light, that - with a bit of modeling clay - it can be mounted directly on top of your keyboard (works perfectly in my case).

    that's probably what I'll end up doing. Though m-audio has a 88 weighted controller for a little over $500. But I am married to my yamaha. I have to be faithful! I am no adulterer.

    Kai's got the right idea I think. I've got a little 2-octave M-Audio too. It can be connected over USB and will probably sit on your master keyboard. Seems like the cheapest way to do it, and you can stay faithful to the Yammy...

    You would need a compatible M-Audio keyboard as this pedal is 1/4" jack and not USB. Now an assignable USB controller pedal... I don't know of any, but then I haven't really looked. I would buy one!

    In your sequencer program, can you map other controllers onto modulation control? I am in the situation where my Roland piano has only the useless pitch/mod lever, and you can't leave the mod at maximum. I am planning on setting up a real time transformer in Logic to turn one of the 4 volume sliders into a modulation slider instead.

    It's a dx plugin that allows you to use your mouse to control CCs.

    Well spotted. Shame I am a mac user though. As it happens, I mapped my sustain pedal to send max modulation. This works really nicely, since, with the portamento samples, it is quite intuitive to slap down the pedal to activate the slide between notes.

    I wrote m-audio and they said it's compatible with my yamaha, I've been trying to figure it out though and have had no luck.

    you can, but sadly not in real time. Unless you use a crayon or something.
