So I took a risk and bought something from Sonic Implants, the Silk Road CD. I should've known better since there was only one demo and it didn't showcase the instruments I was interested in. The second red flag was when I realized there were only 367 megs of samples, for $250!!! But still, I've wanted a persian and arabic violin for a while. Of course, the samples of said instruments are extremely inferior. Ironically, there are impromptu samples of each instrument which highlight the inferiority of the regular samples, because they exhibit how the samples should sound. Honestly, they sound like a synth version. Another bit of irony is that there's an Arabic Violin synthy patch, as if it doesn't sound bad enough.
Okay, how about the wind instruments. Most of them sound okay, however more than a few of them have horrible looping that cause an audible click and obvious loop effect.
The only thing they didn't screw up was the percussion, but I'd have a hard time figuring out how you would screw up something as simple as percussion. Of course there are no Tablas or Taiko drums, so who gives a rat's patootie.
The point of this rant is to add another plea to VSL to please do an ethnic instrument library! Or atleast some of the stringed instruments of the East!!
