  • Chamber Strings and my Pop'n'B song

    Hi folks

    this is the song I'm currently working on.
    Paradise (Because I love you)

    I just added the e-guitar, the strings and the orchestra strikes and I'd be
    happy to hear from you how you find the elements fit together.
    It's just a short passage of 1:02 but sounds kind of complete for that
    passage already.

  • I think it really sounds 80s. Don't know if YOU are happy with that, but I'm quite fond of the 'alternative' 80s sound.

    Concerning the strings... I do like what they're doing, but are they meant to sound pizz or staccato? As they sound now, it feels like sustained notes played too shortly.
    Anyway... it fits the 80s feeling.

    Hmmm, funny. I'm using the string section staccato patch from my VSL Chamber Strings. After the vocals are over, I beefed it up with an orchestra strike. Maybe the string parts after the vocals is what you're feferring to?
    Maybe if I start using single patches for contrabass, cello, viola and violin, then impression is gonna change.
    Any hints what exactly to change to make it sound more like staccato? I could try and shorten the notes of the orchestra strike and reduce it's verb?

    Perhaps that could help. I just listened to it again. Those strings feel rather 'mechanic' like those silly sounds from onboard soundcards, because they sound exactly at the same time.

    Before I got GigaStudio I played every layer live and recorded them one by one. If I wanted to have a certain (synth)instrument to sound like it was an entire group of them, I layered them in Cool Edit just with a tiny offset (the second layer starting just one 100th of a second later, the 3th somewhat later, etc) and sometimes I would filter it very slightly to get a few layers sounding just a bit different.
    That would get me a full sound.

    But that was usually only for my synth-instruments. And since I'm only working with Giga and samples since a few weeks, I'm quite hestitant to recommend anything.
    Hope this is useful in some kind of way...
