  • Suspicious Slow Behavior of VEP when Undoing in Logic

I have this issue since my template is almost done. When i undo things or delete tracks with VEP on Logic Pro, it triggers a kind of reaload in the instances or something like this slowing a lot the process of simple things. I use one instance for each instrument, with ca 5 subinstances of many midi channels, everything decoupled and preserved.

WHen i teach on Zoom, Zoom sets a new audio device and this does again trigger a whole loading proccess in the instances, making everything really bad to work with

I could test the coupling function, but this would dramatically change my workflow and ... it is not right

  • just an idea on switching audio devices:

I use videocall software as well but I put VOICEMETER (Banana/Potatoe) on my Windows PC. I guess you work on MAC - please check for alternatatives yourself.

The big advantage is that you can use those virtual audio-out/inputs on your videocall software. I route even my loopback to Voicemeter and can control it aside of the ASIO setup I preserved for my DAW only.

Now on your initiat behaviour of reloading I might think that you did NOT decouple and preserve. Check again. the options have to be active and not greyed out.

Also you could set this on your preferences - but I do not need this sionce I decoupled/preserved 😉

    Does that help?

  • Thanks, i suspected before this has to do with saving automation and the only fix looks to be using VEP decoupled. This makes VEP useless for me, very frustrating

This means i cant use VEP decoupled for a large template without this delaying my work for many short tasks in Logic Pro?!

Logic has never played nice with VEP or MIR Pro. Every time I exit my template to for example, copy Midi from another project, Logic must disconnect from Mir Pro, and then reconnect when I return. This does not happen in Cubase or Nuendo. I Don't think it happens in any other DAW.

The only good news is the speed of M-Series Macs. We have an M1 Mac Studio Ultra, with 128 Gigs of unified memory and a 64 core GPU. The wait is not too long but it is disruptive and annoying. Honestly, don't really need VEP with this much ram.

  • i use with MAc Ultra 128 Ram. I use with Vep for other reasons. I dont know if this is just Logic not playing nice, you are being too nice. 😉

IT IS A SHAME THAT I HAVE TO WAIT 5 MINUTES or MORE LOADING after an UNDO action . Hallo VSL? SOmeone there? pls fix this on next update. Otherwise the app should not offer the option to couple?
