  • MIR Pro 3D order of instrument in instrument list

Is there a way to fix and save the order the instruments are listed in MIR Pro 3D?

I am using Dorico with VEP with library based instances (so SY WW, SS Brass, Dim. Brass, Dim Brass CS, SY Percussion, SY Strings Pro, Dim Strings, Duality Strings CS) and have put the MIR Pro 3D plugin on all instrument channels used in the piece including the channels used for independent voice playback (e.g. 7 channels for violins 1; the leader solo, all players ensemble with and without sordino, an a divisi 1 and 2 with and without sordino) in the Dorico mixer.

You then get an instrument list im MIR which does not list the instruments in the order I want (classical orchestral score order). I can subsequently shift the instruments to get this order, can then do the panning, balancing and other settings and save the layout as preset with the venue.

All works perfectly well but each time I reopen the project, the instrument order in the MIR Pro 3D instrument list is messed up again. Is there no way to save this order? Or maybe as a workaround if there is no such possibility how to get the instruments from the start in a a desired order in MIR?

I have 66 instrument lines for this particular piece. So it is challenging if you want to slightly change the settings for the violins 1 voices and they are listed on position 34, 41, 49, 53, 59, 60 and 63in the list.

  • Hi! The instrument list order should be saved together with the session. So it is probably a bug that you encountered. Unfortunately the order recustruction can be dependent on how the host (Dorico in that case) loads the project. We may need to adapt to it.

Please contact support@vsl.co.at . A minimal reproducable example would be perfect.

MIR loads the instruments in the same order as your VEP channels. So arrange your VEP instances and channels in the order you want them listed in MIR. Then save the VEP project, close it and reopen it. Your MIR instruments should now be listed in your preferred order.

  • Thanks for the input. I actually use the same VEP Pro template for both Dorico and Cubase. In Dorico with MIR in surround-to-stereo and in Cubase in 7.1.4 in the same venue. That works perfectly you can even keep both programs open. To switch you just need to deactivate the loaded project in e.g. Dorico and then activate it in Cubase and vice-versa.

In Cubase the order is the same as the order of the rack instruments (so in my case all VEP plugins connected to an instance in VEP). So you can influence the order a bit but you have to do it right from the start as you cannot shift any of the rack instruments in good old archaic Cubase. That is challenging if you prepared a template with two flutes and you need 4 in your piece. I have all extra instruments I need in a separate "WW extra" instance but that comes at the end of the VST rack list and therefore also at the end of the MIR instrument list. So you would have to rearrange your whole template in VEP and Cubase just because you cannot save an instrument order in MIR..

In Dorico it also uses the instances of VEP but not in the order you entered them in the VST and Midi rack in Dorico. Below a screenshot of the list as generated in MIR with info from Dorico. All instruments are grouped per VEP instance but the order is neither that of the Dorico VST rack nor that of the instances in my VEP project.

  • Hi @Mavros, VSL's software engineer Konrad Glas (who has already replied to your first posting) kindly asks you to send him your examples via the official support channel, preferably with a short reference to this thread. Otherwise it is difficult to go into the details in a meaningful way.

    TIA!

  • I will do so I will send a Dorico project extract and the VEP template I use but what do I have to send for MIR. Is there a file which defines the setup giving the list above?

  • As long as MIR 3D resides within VE Pro, there's no need for other files. Just make sure you include a brief description of your setup/workflow and some illustrative screenshots. Attaching Vienna Assistant's system report (i.e. its Support File) might help, too.
