  • Seeking a 2025 Overview

Last year VSL posted a discussion with Herb regarding the shape of things to come in 2024. It helped me gauge purchases and plan templates. Knowing in advance that Studio Brass would be released was key in my decisions.

Might we see the same thing for 2025? If yes, possibly when? It's of particular value with the voucher sales.

By the way, loved the holiday video. 😊

  • I hope there will be one of these too

  • There was a video posted for 2025. I have seen it, and there are some promising items in the future.

I do not recall all the details, but there are items that I remember:

Another solo Violin and Viola for the Sychron series. The idea was for a new string quartet.

The Sychron Brass will have mutes. I don't which one (Harmon and Straight would be great)!

More winds and brass that not available.

  • I hope there will be muted brass.

  • "I hope there will be muted brass."

Herb referenced only muted trumpets. I watched it twice, but I could not tell if he used muted trumpets as an example, or that they were only doing muted trumpets.

Might VSL give us some clarification here?

  • Hi,

There will definitely be muted trumpets 😬

    And Trombones?

I hope there will eventually be Synchron muted and stopped horns as well (both, not just one or the other). Muted with a straight mute, and stopped with either a stop mute or hand stopping (they are close enough in sound). The sound is quite different between the two, and both are used a ton.

  • Alas, both Herb and Paul are being equally coy. I considered Synchron Brass II "Muted" as inevitable as a seasonal turn. And by that I mean, all muted brass as we have come to love them in Vienna Instruments / Studio formats.

If muted trumpets appear on their own, I guess it'd be a Special Brass release and not a full Brass volume.

    Only time will tell.
