  • One small quibble about Duality Strings (FX)

The new Duality Strings (FX) package motivated me to finally convert to iLok and overall I'm quite happy with the package and transition. I think it's a great package and kudos to Herb and the VSL team for branching out to more avant-garde, extended string techniques after years of extended woodwind techniques (particularly clarinet). One small quibble: the cluster tremolo glissandi patch is rather slow (the glissando, not the tremolo bowing). While one can speed it up with the Synchron player's stretch function the glissando is still somewhat slow (if you speed it up too fast the tremolo gets blurred and gets lost). It's unfortunate there wasn't an extra patch with a faster glissando speed with the same tremolo speed, rather like the two glissando speed patch options in the Vienna Instruments Solo Strings package. Could there a be a patch update in the future? Also, I wish there were more woodwind patches with multiphonics and glissandi (particularly bassoon, think Berio's "Sequenza" for bassoon) much like the VI clarinet 1 and 2 patches. All the best in 2025 and Frohe Neues Jahr.

    C.
