  • VST 2 vs 3

    Hello all,

I have installed the piano D-274 a while ago, and I see that in:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files

there is a "VSL2" folder containing Vienna Synchron Pianos.dll and Vienna Synchron Pianos Surround.dll

However there is also a "vsl3" folder containing the same files.

In my DAW (Ableton), I am pointing to the VSL2 folder.

    My questions are:

Should I be pointing to vsl3 instead of VSL2?

If so, what is the difference?

And finally, I installed the Celestial Strings, but my DAW does not pick this up automatically. I clicked rescan but nothing found. Do I have to set vsl3 folder for the Strings to work?

    Thank you!

  • Sorry, I meant to say VST (not VSL) for folder names!

  • Hi! VST3 does have a fixed location, and hosts know where to look for them. VST2 does not - therefore, the user can decide where to install VST2 plugins. Consequently, the user must point toward the correct VST2 locations inside the host (e.g., DAW).

  • Hi Andreas,

So with the D-274 instrument, is it designed to be used as VST2 or VST3 insutrment?

    Thanks!

  • Hi! That's your choice, really - and we deliver all our plugins in both VST2 & VST3. But we recommend VST3 over VST2.

  • Hi Andreas,

So I have also installed celestial strings, but cant see it in either vst 2 oe 3 folders.

Do I need Synchron player as it was shown on the product page for celestial strings?

If so, the url for synchron player doe nt exist anymore... Do I need something else to make it work?

    Thanks again!

  • Hi! You find both the Library Download & Player Software (= Synchron Player) in the Vienna Assistant.
