  • My opinion on the Flow GUI as a long-term VSL customer and use

Since I don't know what the future holds with the ‘Flow’ view, whether it's just that or more, I'd like to put in my tuppence worth as an experienced VSL user.

Basically, I will say that this new view/design/system is visually very appealing and intuitive and is similar to many modern samplers and libraries from other developers out there. However, the trade-off is that there's a lot less customisation and control that I'm used to with Synchron Player and VI Pro*. The latter is more important to me than visuals, especially as I really appreciate the systems of the samplers mentioned in the sentence before and find them useful. They may be less friendly for beginners, but they are absolutely great for capable amateurs and professionals!

Since VSL is moving with the times, sometimes even ahead of them (MIR Pro 3D, for example) and wants to win over up-and-coming composers, I understand the move to develop such a modern, graphical user interface and a corresponding system behind it, but I sincerely hope that the old matrix system (yes, that's what I call it in Synchron Player, not just in VI Pro) will be retained and that ‘Flow’ will remain optional. (Sorry for the never-ending sentence!) For my sake, extend the use of this to the ‘full’ libraries as well, because it will surely drive some new customers to you, which will make me very happy as I am a fan of your products, but never turn away from the current, great system! No other developer has such customisable libraries and capable samplers on the market! Some of them are getting there, but Synchron Player and especially VI Pro are way ahead of the rest! (Today I can't hold back with exclamation marks because these statements are so important to me; I am truly sorry!)

Please remain loyal to your long-standing customers and your core target group, thank you!

*I always build my own presets and this option with the scope it offers needs to remain in my opinion. I hope others agree with me!

    LGeist,

I totally agree with you. I'm also a dedicated preset builder! Oeps an exclamation mark! Oh dear another one.

  • I’ll add my 2c worth as a recent (<12mnths) VSL user, I actually have a couple of VI Pro libraries but as I also have the synchron versions I never bothered to even try the VI Pro player. Synchron Player is great, as is Flow, but I would not like to see Flow replace it.

Yes to VSL extending the ambit of Flow to all their Synchron Libraries so long as it doesn’t eliminate Synchron Player

    Just a beginner
  • I think its important to keep in mind that flow is doing a lot more than just providing a different GUI, its also adjusting numerous parameters under the covers while you tweak simpler controls in FLOW. in that sense it has some intelligence for how to control Synchron player that is being handled for you (presuming you agree with what its doing).

I actually like that, but I know what you mean about wanting control. I haven't spent any time with FLow yet, but my question for those using it...or from VSL...is we can switch back and forth between flow and normal synchron so if we used FLOW to adjust something (which under the covers is potentially adjusting multiple different parameters), then can we switch to the normal GUI and have those changes still retained, in order to manually tweak it further? In other words, does switching back and forth between flow and normal gui cause any settings to be reset in any way?

  • I know it’s an entire system and not just GUI.

I will test later when I am home, whether changes reset or not if one switches between normal Synchron Player and Flow mode. Perhaps someone else does it in the meantime, but I‘ll do it anyway.
