  • VI Prepared Piano and Dorico Expressions

I want to use the VI Prepared Piano in Dorico 5 Elements. But it looks like that you can add only new articulations, but not the associated new play styles to use them in the score into Elements.

I need to add keyswitches to switch between the different Prepared Piano Styles like Glass, Screws etc. .

Any idea how this works without creating expression maps? Just add the notes in the score?

Do I need to crossgrade to the SY-ized version and get the articluation maps for them? Will that work?

    thx hs

You can try: shift + ) . You can put notes there, e.g. A-1, B0

These notes will not be printed. Be aware that the notes must be placed before the first note that will be affected.

You can move those added notes with alt + shift and the left arrow key on the PC keyboard. By making the note in the far lower left corner as short as possible, you only move the added notes a very small amount.

With VI you can also work with CC instead of key switches. Tab Ctrl + 8 and choose the key editor to write cc's. You don't necessary need to switch to the Synchron-ized version.

Thanks for the answer. But when I hit shift + ) , nothing happens. I tried also shift + 0, because there could be a keboard language version difference.

( I put the display in write / entry mode, before hitting the key)

CC and tab Ctrl + 8 worked, this is a work around. Very tidious, Dorico is great but horrible to learn, IMHO,

    Thanks hs

Did you select a note, before you entered shift+ ) ? I use the querty keyboard with US International layout. And I use Dorico 5

  • I found out something else, shift + ) is only working in Dorico Pro, not in SE.

Checked the Keyboard Interaction Help Texts and found out exactly that - there is no such a key combo in Elements..

What a bummer.. But thanks for your help anyway, very welcomed.

  • Then the remaining question for Plan B is: Would that works in ELements with SY-ized Prepared Piano and the Dorico Presets?

  • I Just found this site. It looks like that it is present in Elements.

    https://www.steinberg.net/dorico/new-features/

    Scroll down to MIDI triggers.

  • Thanks for the feature link. I tried it, and it works on bar level, you can trigger per bar. Would help in my case also with changing to CC in the VI Player as another option, as you mentioned.

    Thx

  • The Midi trigger region starts on the position where you select a rest or note. You can also:

    • Move the Midi trigger region with alt + left or right arrow key or with the mouse
    • make it smaller with alt + shift + left arrow key and
    • bigger with alt + shift + right arrow.
    • Or resize the Midi trigger region by dragging de little red circles, that appears when you select de midi tracker region

With the note in the utter down left Corner you can change the size of the steps (whole note until 32th note).
