  • The lack of performable trills in many, if not most, “SYNCHRON-ized” products

A highlight of the VI Series for me has always been the “performance trills”, which I usually use in combination with the different legato tempi with “speed” as a switch to play/“MIDIfy” trills with a non-linear tempo, i.e. trills that neither keep the tempo nor constantly speed up or slow down (certain libraries have sampled speeding up or slowing down “fast trills” for this purpose). We know them from final cadences, where trills are first accelerated and then slowed down again, often used in baroque works.

In some “SYNCHRON-ized” conversions they are missing, or seem to be missing, even if there are no alternative, e.g. firmly sampled “fast trills", such as in the contrabass clarinet, oboe d'amore and many others, which is not only a pity, but also very impractical! In some libraries, such as the “SYNCHRON-ized” Dimension Brass (II), they are described as “fast legato” on the website and in the presets, which is why I only found out that they were “performance trills” when I was looking for them as patches. In the examples mentioned above - contrabass clarinet, oboe d'amore - they are apparently missing, as the original VI version already contains normal “fast legato”. I find that really... lousy!

Since I can't treat myself to all the libraries in the VI Series clearance sale now, where the "performance trills" are (apparently/seemingly) missing in the corresponding "SYNCHRON-ized" versions, I really hope that I'm either wrong and they actually are included but not advertised on the website or that they'll be added later, because I love them! Especially if there are no other trills, they should definitely happen! To imitate trills with the regular “fast legato” just doesn't sound good because, firstly, they are much too fast, and secondly, it (fast legato) has no RRs!

  • Performance trills were merged with fast legatos. You can still perform legatos by using this articulation instead.

    This is awesome!

Do I understand this correctly: that the ‘performance trills’ are triggered at a certain tempo, a certain playing speed?

  • The player automatically decides based on speed and intervall what samples to play back when selecting fast legato.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I really like the idea of those samples being merged into own articulation that changes depending on speed and interval!
