  • Another hanging notes problem with VEPro, Logic and HOOPUS

Re: [MIDI notes won't stop playing in Logic](/topic/60890/midi-notes-won-t-stop-playing-in-logic)

So I've read through that thread and early on it is stated that this is a well known issue when running Logic on Apple Silicon with VEPro, in my case on a slave PC which manages all my orchestral samples, mostly HOOPUS. That's relevant to me because I bought an M2 Mac when it was the latest chip and have had frequent hanging notes ever since. It happened only occasionally on my previous Intel Mac.

I have a pretty standard setup within both VEP and Logic, nothing out of the ordinary. I am running a medium sized template. Does anyone know if the devs have made any progress on this issue, or what the actual cause could be and if there's any fix? It's very annoying and I have to mute the offending (random) instrument whenever it happens. For some strange reason it always seems to happen with slur runs or legato articulations. Go figure..

  • The link to that thread didn't come up as a link in my post. Should it?

    So here's the link

    Hey @MarcusMax,

Haven't heard a peep from VSL or Apple regarding this issue. Even a, "Hey! We've seen y'all talking about this...we're working on it!" would be nice. But I'm not holding my breath. What's the saying? Silence speaks louder than words.

I've since moved on from using VEP and gone with an all in one template with disabled tracks in Logic. Such a bummer. I really did love my old VEP setup...was so convenient having everything loaded! If they ever do fix the issue, I'd happily rebuild a new template with VEP. But until then...

  • Sorry for late reply. Yeah it seems nobody is prioritising this issue. I wasn't able to get any help at all except a few vague suggestions from VSL, Apple or EastWest. It's not so bad that I can't use VEP at all but it is annoying and requires muting/unloading etc. offending instrument until they (randomly) behave properly again. I'm probably going to upgrade to Sequoia soon so I'll see if that improves things.

I can't run everything in Logic because I only have 8 GB ram and my sample libraries would take up far more than that, so for the moment I have to put up with this problem and work around it as best I can.
