  • Optimum preload size for Synchron in Silicon environment, and other settings

Any thoughts on what this might be in current setups? (Apple Silicon)

"Rescan read speeds" at present on my system is 174MB/s from an external SSD raid, and the preload is 3072 (can't remember now why and when it was set at that but was on the old intel system)

Also settings such as "force disable all slots" - and the number of streaming threads and loading threads..? It all feels like a bit of a black art.

Is it really just a 'black art' or can I use some science and logic to achieve the best results?

System is Mac studio M2 Ultra 192GB RAM - thunderbolt SSD for libraries. VEPro7 with Cubase 11 (probable upgrade to 13 soon).

  • Hi Richard,

For "Streaming Threads" & "Loading Threads" we recommend not to change them. Default values = 4.

"Force disable all slots" simply means that the Player will open without any samples loaded. You can also choose to "Force enable all slots" - or have the Player load samples on the fly.

The Preload size is usually set to 3072 or 4096 - which is find for standard SSDs. If you run into issues with sample streaming (which is not the same as processing) a higher preload size value will simply load more samples into the RAM when you load up a player preset.

In simply terms: Can improve performance - but your instruments load longer.

  • Thanks Andreas.

And if both boxes are unchecked how is it supposed to behave? (ie force enable and force disable are both unchecked)

NB: In the past I have had issues (old trash can machine on the edge) where "force disable slots" was used to try and help (I think it was you who suggested it actually, Andreas)

    - but right now I'm preparing brand new orchestral templates for the new system and will have in the region of probably 100 instances of Synchron pre-loaded in the orchestral VEpro template (together with Sine, Kontakt and others) so I'm looking for that balance of quick load times / not overloading the RAM and general performance optimisation.

  • Hi Richard,

In that case, the player simply loads the preset as it has been created/saved (in regards to cell status).
