  • Extracting articulation maps using a DAW from Synchron Player hosted in VEP 7?

I work in Digital Performer 11, which gives you the ability to instantly extract an articulation map from Synchron Players (and presumably other VI's, but I've only used it for Synchron). It's extraordinarily useful. The problem? This only works if the Synchron Player is hosted directly in your DP project. DP can't get to the articulations if they're hosted in VEP 7 (I tried this using the MAS, AU and VST3 versions of the plug-in). According to MOTU, that kind of info transfer is something the plug-in has to allow—the Synchron plug does, and the VEP 7 doesn't. (I am using the latest VEP 7 update.)

Is that correct? If it is, it would be great if VSL would allow DAWs to "pierce through the veil" of VEP 7 to extract articulations from VI's hosted by VEP 7. As a workaround, I keep a Synchron Player hosted in my DP projects solely to extract articulation maps, but that involves several extra steps.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks—Peter

  • I would also like this to work without the workaround Peter mentions.

Please consider for a future update!

  • Hi,

Sound Variations are indeed a great feature and we're happy to be a part of this technology, introduced by Presonus/Studio One in March 2021:

Implementation in VE Pro 7 is unfortunately not trivial, but maybe we will get there at some point. With the trend going to one-computer-setups...

    Best,

  • Thanks, Paul! DP's implementation is quite similar, though it looks like Presonus's is a bit more powerful (e.g., I'm pretty sure that if you add a custom articulation to an open instance of Synchron Player, you'd have to manually ask DP to resync the articulation map). But delighted to hear you'll consider adding this. After all, the very people who are the biggest power users of this feature are also the likeliest to be hosting essentially all of their VI's in VEP 7. Adding this feature is what I'd call a win win! (At least for me. 😊
