  • MacBook Pro M3 Max Set Up

    Hello, everyone!

    As Stephen Limbaugh´s topic has been closed I start a new one to ask for some help with the MBP M3 Max:

    1. What is better, having the the sounds in the internal SSD or in an external one? In case the internal SSD is faster, would it be possible to work with an external drive without problems?

    I have considered these two Samsung T7 (1000 MB/s) and T9 (2000 MB/s) Are them fast enough? Are there better options?

    2. What is better (faster), having the project in the internal SSD or in an external one?

    3. Is it better to use external SSD to prevent internal one to fail? I have read some things about its lifetime but I am not sure if I should be worried about it.

    4. I use Logic and Dorico. Would I need VEP7?

    5. I am going to need a Dock/Hub for USB cables. Which one would you reccomend? I have considered Anker 543, Anker 555 Hub and Anker 565 Hubs

  • M3 internal discs are very fast. And expensive. T7's are 'fast enough' and will work without problems.

  • On Synchron Piano Player, I have noticed no difference between hosting in VEPro, Logic itself, nor streaming the samples from the internal or external drive. All of the performance is the same unless I go with 4 buffers in the VEPro plugin window, but that makes live playing untenable.

    The Synchron Player on the otherhand has been wryly.

    When hosted in VEPro and Logic's buffer is set low, there is no difference in performance than if I host the Synchron Player in Logic directly. At higher buffers, above 256 in Logic and 2 buffers in the VEPro plugin window, there is a difference in performance, VEPro edging out by around 10% better CPU numbers when measured in the Synchron Player. The performance is also the same whether the samples are streamed from the internal drive or an external connected via thunderbolt. Granted, all this is when 4+ mic positions are loaded in each Synchron Player instances, no matter where it is hosted.

    Lastly, I have noticed that if an instance of VEPro has the old school VIPro instrument in it, the CPU usage as measured in the VEPro instance tab is MUCH higher than VEPro instances without VIPro present.
