  • "Paul replied that they had to change the way VEP saved to improve performance."

I was under the assumption that the failure of the Instrument pane to appear was a known bug, and that VSL was fixing it. Did VSL say that it's going to stay this way?

It's been a kludge for several months, and it's particularly unfortunate when building templates, needing to move between different instances. It exacerbates the already slow GUI response -- another matter I had hoped they were fixing.

  • customer support said it works perfectly fine for them and that is a problem with my machineā€¦ will report back if they manage to fix it for me, crossed fingers

  • Hi! A quick update:

We can reproduce the issue on some of our machines, but not all of them. We will investigate!

I am using the same machines that I used the with pre-VST 3 VEP and there was not the same problem then.

Could you tell us which machines could reproduce the issue and which ones couldn't? Thanks.

Have you heard any updates? Thanks for posting about this.

  • Hi all, this will be addressed eventually, but I can not give you an ETA.

    Good news

  • Thanks Andreas. Just knowing that it's on the radar is encouraging.

Thanks Andreas. What does "Save Default Window Layout" in the View menu do? I can't get it to do anything. I was hoping it might be the answer to this problem. Also, when I load saved instances, the F4 show instrument command doesn't work at first. Am I misunderstanding something? Sorry for all the questions. Many thanks for looking into this.

  • I was hoping it might be the answer to this problem.

    It isn't.

The command is useful, though. It's intended to remember the arrangement of different windows and then recall them as needed.

For example, if you've got a MIR window on the left and an Automation pane on the right, Save Default Window Layout will remember that arrangement. The command Restore Defalt Window Layout in a different instance, for example, will open those two windows with the same dimensions as you saved.

That becomes your "default" window arrangement. It's helpful indeed. But It's not the solution to Instrument view issue.

Thanks for explaining that. I greatly appreciate it.

  • Any update? Just wondering. Many thanks.

  • Nothing that I can see. It's possble that the latest version of VEP (7.3.3502) is snappier, but getting the Instrument window to show up still needs an extra click.

VSL has indicated that it's not a simple fix. I'm sure they're working on it.

  • F4 still doesn't work. I was hoping this would be fixed by now. I have key commands set up to quickly view instuments in VEP. They don't work until I click on an instrument and that is in every VEP instance.

Luckily I only have 8 instances setup. Some, I would imagine, have many many more.

There was a similar problem a few years ago with one update of pre-VST3 VEP7. Suddenly it was not possible to save instances with the automation window closed. But that was fixed quite quickly. I don't think there was ever a case of not being able to save an instance in pre-VST3 VEP7 with the instrument view showing. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. VEP7 is wonderful software.

Even if F4 worked, that would help a lot.
