  • Steinway D : strange vibration with D5

    Hi,

I'm in the process of trying pianos a few libraries before making my choice. A this point, I've just realized there's a buzz with the D5 key with Steinway (the harder you hit the more you hear it). I didn't hear it with Yamaha . Is it something accidental on my installation or do you have the same issue ? This kind of noise is really a blocker.

  • I noticed it too. It amazes me that a VST that costs this much has that little buzzy bell-like sound on that key. It is also present on D#5 and onwards and disappears around C6. Very distracting. I might have to return it and get my money back.

  • Hi redlab and ColdZero!

What you hear is an overtone. If it bothers you, you can filter it out with the EQ under Edit:
    D5: ~2350 Hz (Q10)
    D#5: ~2490 Hz (Q10)

    Best regards,
    Andi

The colorful overtones are considered one of the charms of the Steinway concert grand. If you guys are looking for a very clean sound with strong fundementals then you should try the Fazioli F308. It's my favorite.

I've returned it. Maybe one day I'll buy it again and try to EQ it out. And what David said about being a charm of the Steinway, I really don't believe that. It literally sounded like a tambourine being played in the background. I bought the Bosie Imperial and I am really enjoying that. Thank you for the help though.

The Bosendorfer Imperial is my second favorite Synchron Piano to play. It's so warm and rich.
