  • VE or not?

    HI guys!

I'm new to VSL and own the Synchron percussion bundle. I'm using it to make arrangments for percussion ensemble in Reaper. What would be the benefit for me using Vienna Ensemble? I still would have to load one instance of Synchron player per instrument I'd want to use, I guess?

  • I guess the point would be to load the instruments only once and be able to switch between projects without having to reload the same instruments every time.

Or the second point could be to have it on a separate PC that you connect to from your main PC to save system resources.

I would have recommended it for those uses in the past but sadly the load times have gotten ridiculously slow compared to before, for me at least and there seems to be no fix for it for 6 months or even longer now. If I want to load a template for a new project with 3 sound libraries ready to go (48 *disabled* instances in VEPro) it will take over 6 minutes just to do that in my DAW (FLStudio). And on top of that as I'm writing this I'm closing an old project that only has 8 active instances loaded in VEPro, and it's taking 19 minutes and counting just to close the program... Your mileage might vary, but at the moment I wouldn't recommend to start using VEPro for anyone, who's aim would be to save time using it.

It used to be very fast though before some kind of update and vst3 support. Everything loaded in a minute or something like that.

If you're only using it for one sound library only then it might be okay, but in that case there's not much value for using it anyway in my opinion.

If they fix the slow load / unload times then I would recommend it if you plan to build a big orchestral template for example.

  • Hi,

Looks like Oskar is referring to VE Pro 7 (the paid network hosting software), not the free VE.

The free VE (non-Pro) will help you to keep everything Vienna "under one roof" and benefit from our great multithreading performance.

  • Hi Cyril,

You do know that we offer a free Vienna Ensemble that is essential to use with Sibelius, right?
It is available to anyone who has registered a VSL product.
