  • VEP7 Standalone engine stops after sitting idle

I have VEP7.2.1493 standalone (not server) running on an i7 PC, Windows 10, 64G ram, and usually about once a day, VEP simply stops working after sitting idle for more than a few minutes.  It shows 0.0% cpu usage, and must be closed and reloaded.

In addition, VEP's service keeps running in task manager, and must be killed manually.

Any ideas?  It is only hosting samples (multiple instances of Synchron Player, Play 6, Kontakt 5 and 7).  I am using RTP midi and hardware/ASIO between the VEP PC and my host Mac running DP.

  • Finally gave up on VEPro, even as a stand alone host.  I never figured out what was causing the engine to stop running.

I replaced VEP with Studio One 6.  Being a lighter DAW, it is quick to load, and while the layout isn't geared towards sample hosting, it works quite well, and has been up and running for several days without restarting. CPU overhead seems to be around half of what VEPro used, and more stable. Of course this only works with network midi and hardware audio I/O, which I moved to when I got the Mac M1 (due to the lack of VEP compatibility).

I still love VSL libraries, but won't be returning to VEPro anytime soon.
