    Hi,

I transitioned from the VI Solo Strings to the c this past month.

Testing out the samples in Dorico Pro 4.3, I'm not finding where the glissando samples are and how to trigger them using the current basic expression maps from VSL.

Do these exist in the Synchronized Solo Strings?

  • Hello Algae502002!

Glissando articulations are included in the SYNCHRON-ized Solo Strings "full" presets under "Phrases", but not in the "basic" presets. Therefore they are not included in the expression maps.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • So you're saying that I need to use the full merged preset and add whatever is left, into the Expression Maps.

If so, is there any guidance for doing this, between the VSL and the Dorico manuals?

  • Hello Algae502002!

The Dorico expression maps are not compatible with the full presets. They only work with the basic presets. If you want to add other articulations (like glissando), you can do that with help of the custom slots in the basic presets. If you want to trigger them with Dorico, you will have to create custom playing techniques and custom playback techniques. Then you would have to add these custom playback techniques to your expression maps. So this is not an easy process. For details please refer to the Dorico manual.

  • Hello Alex!

Please make sure that the notes are connected or overlap. If there is a gap between the notes, no portamento transition will be triggered.

  • Hello Alex!

As far as I know, the portamento playback techniques only get triggered with the "portamento" playing technique and not with portamento lines. Please try to use "portamento" from the "Playing Techniques" menu and note that the command should get assigned to the target note.

    Best regards,
    Andi
