    I've tried different patches shared by kind people on forums (incluiding Philips' presets) and found no one did velocity curve in VSL. I'm a pianist who don't know VST/DAW much. I'm using a Roland RD-2000 keyboard as input. I'm wondering do I need to set the velocity curve in VSL in order to have a more realistic touch or it has produced the sound considering the own velocity curve from my RD-2000 keyboard (I'm not sure if I described properly). Because I actually found quite different to play with the linear velocity curve in VSL from all the setup patches from forum. But since everyone does have the velocity curve as default, it makes me wonder. I still haven't found my best setting to make the key touch/sound acts what I want :/. 

    Sorry if i didn't describe my question clearly. Hope anyone can help

    Hello! I just saw this post and hope I can help. Having access to all the synchron pianos, I definitely find the steinway to be the most finicky -- and the one that needs the most tweaking to the velocity curve. I think this is in part because it probably has the most change in timbre from pianissimo to fortissimo. The benefit is that you can significantly 'tune' the piano's color using only the velocity curve.

    I am only an intermediate player, but I have already seen at least two other much more advanced pianists using similarly-shaped velocity curves, so I hope you find this helpful

    Here's what the curve looked like for me only my old Casio PX-560. I just upgraded to a Kawai MP11SE and the curve is similar, except a bit more concave. It could probably use further refining, but hopefully this provides a starting point. It seems many find the steinway sounds too hard out of the box so a curve like this essentially 'stretches' the softer dynamic layers contained in the piano to cover a wider range of velocities, while still allowing you to access those fortissimos when you need them.

    Luckily VSL gives us a bazillion velocity layers to work with so it still doesn't feel like there are any gaps in the dynamic layers even with a fairly dramatic velocity curve.

    My advice is to take the time to mess with the velocity curve -- even small changes can make a big difference, especially in the lower half of the dynamic spectrum.
