I've been using the Chamberstrings samples since they came out (2006?) ... and I never really noticed it. Maybe because I practically always doubled the cellos with the double basses - an octave lower, of course. Also, I never produced a piece where the cellos are totally alone with staccati.
Then, as far as I remember, in the VI version there was only staccato, détaché short and détaché long. The spiccati I think were only found in the repetitions.
As I said, I produced many pieces (mainly baroque music) and I never felt that the cellos were lacking in the short articulations....
I myself rarely used Détaché short anyway, because for me the articulation usually sounds a bit too weak. For short, slightly longer sounding notes I mostly used sfz. Example (Nr.39)
