  • Hanging notes when loaded old Channel Sets in new VEP7

    Hi,

After updating my software on MacPro to

    macOS Monterey, Version 12.1 (21C52)

    Vienna Ensemble Pro 7, Version 7.0.1120-Nov 2021

    Logic Pro, Version 10.7.2

there are hanging notes when I insert a channel set created a year ago.

    How to reproduce:

    1. start VEPro7 server

    2. start a template project from scratch using Viennas AU3 template

    (01_VE_Pro_7-AU3_BETA_8-Ports_1-Instance_Template.logicx from

    BETA-AU3_Multiport-Templates_VE_Pro_7-2 in MyDownloads).

    3. connect Logic Pro to VEPro7 and rename Instance to TestProj8x1

    4. In VEPro7 Insert channel set from disk..., (harp from Vienna Instruments Pro) that has been saved to disk as a channel set ca. a year ago.

    5. Create there notes (a triad)in Logic track: Port 7, Channel 3

    6. Play Logic: Result the three notes are played but they are note released ! You can see in the instrument Vienna Instrument Pro that the notes are still pressed.

But when pressed the keys on the keyboard of the instrument with the mouse, the notes are released.

This problem occurs only on channel sets saved to disk quite some time ago. When creating a new

matrix in the virtual instrument, saved to disk as a channel set and reloaded as a channel set, there is no problem and there are no notes hanging (no MIDI Key off command sent)

I tried to load an old channel set from disk and then saved it to disk again, but this procedure did not help to solve my problem.

I have created and saved a large number of channel sets, I need to use them badly if I do not want to spend weeks in recreating them.

    Thanks for any hint.

    Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

    Thanks for posting.

Our AU3 plug-in is still in beta (we're waiting for things to move at Apple/Logic), so I think that is the reason for this behaviour.
Did you check with the standard AU?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,
thanks for your suggestion. I have tried several templates provided by Vienna, but none of them helped. The AU3 templates do not work as mentioned. None-AU3 templates (old) work for the channel sets, but there are no Scripter in the slots of this template, used for articulation sets. Also logic articulation sets cannot be loaded. Loading articulation sets is very important for my workflow, without them an efficient, professional production is not possible for me. Therefore I decided to use a highly recommended X-DAW Articulation Maps Editor (http://www.audiogrocery.com/). Since I currently have a strikt deadline, I will produce my piece with Logic Pro only without VEP7. For future projects I decided after years of problems with Logic Pro (in connection with VEP7) to switch to Cubase Pro, VEP7 and X-DAW Articulation Maps Editor.

  • Are you finding Cubase to be stable running a large orchestral template with VEP7, latest version?

I'm having the same hanging notes issue on Ports 5-8 and I can't get work done here.

  •  I am experiencing some pretty crazy behavior with hangin notes around EWSO platinum in Play. Hanging notes, upside down GUIs etc. the template is over a year old.

  • I am getting some crazy behaviour with play on VEP 7.0.1120 also. Very buggy with Logic Pro  10.7.2.

I am running a Mac Mini M1 with big Sur.

How do i go back to the previous version of VEP 7?

    What's the process

    Cheers

    Hi,

Sorry to hear about the troubles.

Please find all relevant previous versions of VE Pro in our Downloads Archive.

To roll back on macOS, please use the included Uninstaller, then ran your older installer version.

Attention: Previous versions will NOT work on macOS Monterey.

    VE Pro Changelog

  • LogicPro 10.7.2 has a lot of bugs.  I recommend rolling back LogicPro to 10.6.3 before rolling back VePro.

  • I’m also getting a lot of hanging notes with the latest VEPro version. I am on Logic 10.4.8 though as it’s the latest version I can run under High Sierra, which is the latest OS my humble Mac Mini can handle. Going to downgrade VEPro tomorrow to see if that sorts it as I cannot work at all with this happening as much as it is.
