  • Configuring windows as slave, Mac as master

    Updated: I found a solution. Firewall can be enabled on both windows and Mac computers as long as firewall settings allow the Vienna Ensamble app through. No need to manually open ports on any machines.

    Hi,

    I've spent some hours trying to get my intel MacBook Pro mid 2018 (Big Sur) to find the instances on Vienna Ensemble Pro Server 7 (7.0.1056) 64-bit on my desktop with Windows 10 home, version 2004.

    The two computers are connected directly with ethernet, not via a router or switch. This should work right?

    I've followed this guide https://www.vsl.info/en/manuals/vep7/network
    * I've opened these ports in Windows firewall: 6472 (TCP),6473 (TCP),6474 (UDP),6475 (UDP),6476 (UDP),6477 (UDP).
    * I've tried disabling firewall on Mac.

    * I've tried configuring static IPv4 adresses for the ethernet-port: on windows machine 192.168.0.1, on Mac 192.168.0.2, both with subnet mask 255.255.0.0. I have also tried configuring both computers with the same ip-address.

    It's a bit confusing with the IP addresses. I would like a more detailed guide on how to set this up. Should only server-computer(s) have static ip-address, or should master-computers also? Should they have the same IP-address, or must all computers in the Ensemble pro 7 network have different ethernet IP-addresses? Should I use a router and configure the static ip addresses from the router? Why can't it have dynamic IP-addresses? Are the ip-addresses configured for the whole machine or only the ethernet-ports on the machines? How can I confirm that Bonjour-service is activated on both computers? How can I "store" these IP-settings so that it doesn't reset to standard settings when I disconnect or restart the computers? Do network sharing need to be configured correctly on both machines?

    On Mac I've changed IP-address via System preferences/Network/"USB 10/100/1000 LAN" connection. Should the IPv4 configuration on ethernet port be configured as "Using DHCP with manual address", "Manually" or "Using BootP" - does it matter?

    On Windows I've changed IP address via "control panel/network and internet/network and sharing center/change adapter settings/Ethernet properties/Internet Protocol version 4". I've found another place IP address for ethernet can be changed as well: Settings/Network & internet/Ethernet/IP-settings - changing settings here requires Gateway, preferred DNS and alternate DNS in addition to IP address and subnet. Do both of these settings need to be changed?

    * I've tried restarting both computers.

    In the vienna ensemble pro 7 server preferences "Advertise on local network" is activated.

    using logic pro x on mac and vienna ensamble au-plugin to search for server. The plugin does not automatically find the server, and I can not connect by writing (what should be) the server IP (192.168.0.1) and instance name from within the Vienna Ensamble plugin.

    Any thoughts why my Vienna ensamble plugin on Mac cannot find the server instances on Vienna ensemble pro 7 server on windows machine?

    Thanks,

    For a DIRECT non switch or router connection you need a crossover net work cable. A crossover cable switches out all pins on one end, so its more that just swapping over say the green solid / stripe and so on.

    Best bet is an unmanaged switch 1Gbe 5 to 8 port since they're fairly cheap at micro center. TPLink is okie dokie
