Would Vienna Suite Pro be useful in my case?
Hi all, Like all of you, I'm a composer. Unlike many of you, I have no clue about mixing/mastering, post-production, etc. I do the best I can with no technical know-how. I'm finishing a new string quartet, as well as an album of orchestral music, and would like to explore ways to improve the overall sound beyond what I'm currently capable of achieving. Currently, I use VSL instruments exclusively, alongside MirPro, and Ozone for mastering. My question is, would adding Vienna Suite Pro to my arsenal provide me with tools to sweeten the mix, add a little more warmth/air to the sound, and give the recordings a less clinical/digital sound and a more warm/analogue sound (this is probably a really dumb way of describing it, but I'm not technical enough to know how better to explain it). Does Vienna Suite Pro basically do the same things as Ozone? (ie. have exciters, compression, maximizer, etc.) Is it easier/less technical to use? Is it really necessary if I'm already using MirPro with Ozone? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Dave

For warmth, you might wanna look at tape saturation, esp. for strings:
And a kind of how-to:

Thanks again, Sam! I'll look in to that tape saturation plugin and the article.

VS and VS Pro are both very ergonomic and simple to use; in fact I learned mixing using the original because eg., compression is presented in such a clear UI. The pro version does a number of things the original doesn't. The original is selling for 130 euro which is an amazing deal. For a beginner mixing I don't see anything comparable in one package.
Neither has that kind of saturator, except the compressor has a "Fat" setting.
