  • getting stuttering and glitching with VE Pro 7

I'm getting horrible audio glitching and stuttering in a sequence in Cubase in which I'm using VE Pro.  The first time I worked on the sequence, I had no problem with audio at all.  Now when I've returned to the sequence, the audio is virtually unplayable.

In this sequence, I'm using VE Pro on three machines:  my master machine (MacBook Pro), and two slave machines (PCs, with Windows 7 and 10.)  The audio from the MacBook Pro is completely fine.  The audio from the Windows 10 machine is fine.  It's the audio from the Windows 7 machine that's having all kinds of problems,  And of course, this is the machine which I'm using for 90% of my virtual instruments in this sequence.

I have three instances of VE Pro on this machine.  One of those instances has two instances of Kontakt with seven instruments total, and one instance of Best Service Engine with five layers of instruments.  It's a pretty heavy load, I guess.  The CPU usage for that instance is at about 41%.  I know that's rather high, but it all played perfectly smoothly when I was working on it before.

What's weird is that other instances of VE Pro on this machine with a much lighter load will also not play properly.  They're also just as glitchy and stuttery.  However, when I added a new instance of VEPro to the machine today -- an instance of Kontakt with a clarinet -- it played smoothly.

I tried a bit of troubleshooting:  I increased the buffer count in the VE Pro instance to 3, then to 4.  It seems to have little effect.  I increased the buffer size in Cubase 11 to 512.  That also has had no effect.  I'm guessing I may have overloaded that once instance of VE Pro and that in turn has corrupted / affected the other instances...?

Here are the specs on that machine:  Windows 7, 32 GB ram, Intel Core i7.  I think this library may be installed on a spinup drive rather than an SSD.  But why would it have run smoothly the first time (when I spent hours working with it) and not the second time?  I would welcome any ideas you may have on how to fix this.  Thanks!

  • Hi epicquest,

Sorry that noone answered here... be sure to contact us via support@vsl.co.at with any specific questions.

It sounds to me like that's a network issue... any chance you might be connecting over WIFI for some reason?

    Best,
