  • Modulation Wheel (lack of one)

Have just bought the Pro edition and am over the moon with it. However, I am a little concerned that my Yamaha P80 master keyboard does not have a mod wheel and as far as I can see the performance tool relies on it heavily. Is there another way of triggering without mod wheel?

    Thanks
    Adam

  • Adam,

you could plug another smaller controller (keyboard, PhatBoy etc) into the MIDI in/thru port of your P80 - use the mod wheel on that, or assign a rotary CC to the mod function.

    or

in the sequencer, draw in the mod wheel CC curve in the edit page after you've played the part in - okay for perf_leg_porta combos, but not great for p_ff mod control (not perf tool related)

  • Thanks Peter,

So, let me get this straight, I could plug a Phat Boy into the midi in of my P80 and then use the various controllers on it to emulate a mod wheel?
That would be the best answer you think?

    Cheers Adam

  • There's a very cool program on the Mac (I don't know whether it is for PC too) called MIDIPIPE by Subtlesoft. It translates one message into another, and does other great midi functions. I keep it in the background, open, and have told it to translate volume slider messages from my keyboard to MOD wheel, and it works like a charm (my keyboard is RD150 without a MOD WHEEL). There may be something for PC similar...

  • Peter and Tom,

Thanks for help. Got myself an evolution midi controller and am controlling to my hearts delight!

    Thanks again for help.
