  • Logic Pro X - high CPU issue

    Hi everyone,

I am building up my new template with my new powerful slave PC. I created a Server VEP 7 64bit, programmed all my instances etc. Results in about 170 instrument tracks in logic (use the UA3 VEP plugin, multi).

On the Windows site everything looks fine, low CPU rates and no memory issues. On the host side i get strange CPU spike's which results in audio ticks and cracks.. There isn't even a single note recorded in logic. Not a single vst loaded yet, only the ua3 VEP client. When i start playing an instrument, cpu spikes...

    Anyone have an idea?

    Thank you alot!

    Regards, Mark

Edit: I set the numer of thread in logic manually to 8 (max) which totally dropped the CPU meter. But, the clicks and pops are still there 😶. VEP shows only about 10% Cpu load... Network is 1 Gb/s)

  • how powerful is the mac DAW machine?  When you have a track selected that is feeding into the VePro plugin, then it will be in live mode..only using a single thread/core on that mac.  Ultimately the live track performance in LogicPro is dictated by your processor speed, since that instance of the VePro plugin will be processed by a single thread.  CHanging the LogicPro thread count settings won't make any difference at all until you have a lot of tracks with plugins playing back..best to leave that setting on auto anyway

increase the buffer sizes obviously..that can compensate for whatever is happening, but basically as far as LogicPro is concerned the live track will be on a single core no matter what, which should be fine because the VePro plugin isn't really doing that much.

I suspect the drop outs are more related to network issues.

  • Hi Dewdman,

Thank you for your reply! I continued fiddling all the settings and had some good results. Tried increasing my projects and all went pretty ok until meter starts comming up again. Now i stubled across this error:

"Sample Rate 45.325 recognized. Check conflict between Logic Pro X and external device."

The network is really stable, its a CAT6 cable between my mac and host, fixed ip's etc. Also in windows showing pretty low traffic.

My mac is a 2012 quad core (top machine that time) which should be able to handle this kind of project. I mean, the real working is in de slave. I do have 8 times a EWQL Spaces plugin in Logic.

Well, hope the error message does ring some bells around here :)

    Thnx again!

Edit: When i close vep on the windows computer (and disconnect), all problems are gone, cpu gets 'relaxed' immediately...
