Adagio, from Symphony #11 for Virtual Instruments

Here's a slow movement from a new larger work I'm currently writing . This adagio is scored for English horn, harp, Dune, chamber string section and solo violin, solo viola and solo cello. I hope you enjoy listening.

Hi Jerry,

What an amazing movement. So relaxing and yet never boring because of its interesting and thrilling thematic material and fascinating harmonies. I followed the score to have some more insight in your harmonic magic. How simple the piece might look at first sight, it is probably not so easy to play with the very slow pace and deep emotional content. Maybe one of the best pieces the genre I've heard here so far.

Thanks Jos!  I'm happy with this movement.  Now, on to the 4th and last.   It's been a very productive year for me because my wife and I don't go anywhere.  Literally nowhere other than walks in the park and occasional doctor appointments.   There's the only advantage of a pandemic I suppose.   California is now under an intense lockdown with curfews and, in some cities like San Francisco where I live, we're not even supposed to go outside other than for exercise or essential services.   How is it where you are?

Hi Jerry,

The lockdown in Belgium is 'mild'. Recently shopping is allowed again, but not 'fun shopping'. You must be alone and within a reasonable range of distance from home. Traveling abroad is still possible, but only to safe regions. Ski resorts in Europe are closed for non-inhabitants.

Like you said, the weird advantage is, that we all have plenty of time to spend on composing and listening to music (or reading). At the moment, I'm testing Dorico Pro 3.5. Since I write all my music in scores, a good program is necessary. Up to now I've been working with Finale (stopped evolving in 2012) and later with Notion. The latter is good, intuitive in use, but rather limited in engraving and print-out quality. That's where the new Dorico comes in... A crossgrade from Finale is very affordable now and worth considering. But first a thorough test with the free trial.

Hi Jerry, I heard your beautiful Adagio from your 11th (!) Symphony and enjoyed the music really. Congratulations! The dreamy atmosphere, the mixture of bright sounds and the melancholic voice of Englishhorn is a great pleasure for me. I think it's a good idea to post here at times a new work with like-minded persons.
I am working with VSL and Dorico 3.5 since some months and I'm enthusiastic😊. The community here is new for me and I think I will visit this forum more often in future.
I am a 71 years old guy living in bavaria 😉 In my youth I composed numerous scores for orchestra and chamber music and planned to be a musician. But the most of them I never could hear, only a handful was played in concerts with my orchestra of school and university. But the destiny would that I became a physician and play and hear music remained a ardent »hobby«…
Now I'm retired I rediscover they joy in composing music. The modern technologies (I'm a Mac user since more than 20 years) help to listen the old works and my new attempts.
As example for my work I will post something too, one elder work from the 70s and one new, written for my brother Andreas who lives in Spain as professional musician in Jazz and classics (Saxophones, Clarinet and recorder).

Hi Michael.

I'm listening and really enjoying your Musik Für Oboe Und Kleines Orchester.
You did a very good job as a newcomer to VSL (and Dorico): production is as fine as the composition is so well crafted. I like the "hard", tense tone of the oboe in the first part.

A thread on its own will give them exposure they deserve.
