VE PRO 7 CPU Spikes on new Mac Pro

I'm having some CPU spikes on certain patches across a variety of plug-ins and libraries. What's odd is, while the patch is being played the Kontakt CPU goes from resting 4% to 6% while the VE PRO Cpu meter in the lower right corner jumps from resting 25% to 99%. This is accompanied by cracks and short drops of audio. I'm not sure why it's only certain Legato patches. In this case 8DIO Requiem Choir Legato. 

 

It also happens with 6 Fr Horns patch in Play from Hollywood Brass, and Spitfire's Brass Legato passages. I'm interested in what could cause the discrepancy between the two CPU readings.

Does this also happen when you load ONLY that instance (e.g. 8DIO Requiem Choir Legato)?

It doesn't seem to.

Some progress! I re-saved as a project Instance instead of Server Project,  and it behaves normally.

However, if I click on preferences in VEP (without changing anything), the spikes return. I've been able to duplicate this three times in a row.  

Also, Enabling and Disabling channel sets will make the CPU spikes return.  When the CPU spikes come back, I quit and start VEP again, reloading the project as an instance. CPU behaves normally. 

 

Any insight?
