I think it would be amazing if VSL developed there own notation program..and i for one would buy it in a heart beat!

I think what they have done with Sibelius is frankly wonderful...but looking at whats happening with software like Staffpad..i cant help think the market for a new system is ripe for the taking really.

Judging how quickly major software companies have developed versions of there software libraries to work on this ipad app.....to me anyway..has been a real eye opener...and hopefully a new era of software developers are pushing the bounderies of whats possible.

If VSL developed a notation system that just works with the sample players...lets you access every articulation that they have recorded for every instrument theve produced...just works with Mir Pro...either the VI stuff of Synchron...WOW....I'm in already!

I'm sorry if I insist, but why do we need a new notation program just for using the VSL sounds? We can use any notation program we like. We only need expression maps, or how they are called in the various programs. Where this has be done, integration is already great.

I've made my custom presets and custom articulation sets for Logic, and it works wonderfully. The expression maps I'm building for Dorico seem to work really fine.

I miss other integration parts, but sounds are the easiest part.

This was something I had requested myself, maybe over 10 years ago, when there were two big players on the notation market and integration with such programs was lamentable - I don't think it's really great today either. Not anywhere near the degree it should be. I had made that suggestion with the ultimate dream that through continuous development we eventually we would not need a DAW, tracks and regions and articulation lanes. Everything -or almost everything- would be feasible on the page with as much traditional notation as possible. There'd be nothing better for classically trained composers/orchestrators.

A VSL-specific (or not) notation program (of Sibelius et al calibre) with great VE integration would still be desirable but would not be worth the company's effort and expansion; not when there has emerged a strong third player absorbing the customer base, and certainly not when there are so many more orchestral libraries competing today.

Pity, pity, pity (I feel like a character from an Italian opera now).

I dont want to write music in a daw...then import that into a notation software and sort the score out...what id love is to be able to write music in a notation program that plays back like a daw..one piece of software that does both things really well.

Perhaps if VSL developed there software for Staffpad it would be a huge thing for me..and im sure others too..as inputting notation with a pen on an ipad..and have it play back with hardly any tweeking is a massive advance in software....Spitfire Audio and Orchestral Tools have developed there libraries for it...so perhaps VSL can add to it!

We are saying the same thing. I doubt it will ever happen no matter how much I wish it. It took how many years the people in Steinberg to create Dorico after they were fired by Avid, and they were specialists...

I think that someday what we want will be realized and with even truer samples as they get better all the time.

Like I said, I have been waiting for over 10 years. Hopefully it won't be another 10...

VSL have stated catagorically that they will never do this.

I would love to have Vienna libraries available for StaffPad!

Right now it's StaffPad>MusicXML>Dorico+VEPro and I'd love to stay in SP until it's time to format the score and parts.

FWIW I would like to add my support to this also. The integration with Sibelius is time-consuming and unreliable in my experience. You only need to look at the opening pages of the Optimizing With Sibelius manual (which is invaluable BTW) to see how many links there are in the chain and how many chances there are for things to go wrong. The proposed 'Vienna Score' would not need anything like the features Sibelius has because the latter was originally designed for engraving - for printing out scores - playback was secondary. A VSL-dedicated software would only need to concentrate on playback and need only work with VSL libraries. It would also mean VSL users would be finally set free from bugs etc which may exist in Sibelius and the dreaded Sibelius Mixer.
