  • Migrating from ELicense 2 to Elicense 3? Where's a how-to?

    Hi gang,

I'm putting my old Win 7 machine to reset and to use the old ELicense on it, I need to update it to the new one. So I purchased a new one (should get it by Saturday), but I have no clue on how to migrate the licenses from the old ELicense 2 dongle to the new ELicense 3 dongle.

So the question is: How do I migrate my licenses from my old ELicense 2 dongle to a new ELicense 3 dongle?

I've done a cursory search online and found everything BUT migrating from 2 to 3.

Any links or tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Cheers,

    Andrew K

  • There's just the one key, though. This 2 vs 3 is in your imagination.

Ahhaaa! Yes... I also have iLok keys so I think I was confusing iLok1 vs 2 with my big and old Steinberg ELicense dongle.

My old one (that was in my old Win 7 machine) works with Windows 7, and it is eventually recognized by ELicense Manager on my new machine... but it's intermittent and totally unreliable. My newer one (that I use on my Mac)  works perfectly with Windows 10, but I need both to work. So, how do I transfer my licenses from an old dongle to a newer smaller one?

This is the error message I keep getting:

    Pic of error

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for all your help.

  • I would run maintenance in elicenser and 'recover' first. You may want to see about a legacy version for the older key at elicenser website.

Normally to transfer licenses you drag and drop from one key to the other as you see it in the application. I can almost kind of vaguely remember a larger key.

    Thanks again!

I'll be receiving my new dongle tomorrow. For anyone else who stumbles on this thread, here is an official link for transferring licenses (Steinberg chat gave it to me):
