Is v2 Library of Boesendorfer Imperial the thing that add updates from previous version?
If so, do I just need to add an update file without installing v2 newly?
Thank you.

Paul,
I am alittle bit confused.
E-mail begins with "We have just optimized the Close and Mid microphone signals...", but:
1. E-mail instructions and video mention updates for Mid mics only.
2. Bösendorfer Imperial Update Info (pdf file) from My Downloads says there is update for Clicks in the Close1 and Close 2 microphone on key C2.
There is obvious discrepancy between all 3 statements.
Please clarify what exactly was fixed.
Thanks.
Hi VladKo,
Hope this clarifies it:
1) We have improved both Close and Mid Mics, and some more adjustments.
2) Mid Mics require a new download, to fix the panorama issue.
3) Close Mics "only" require a smaller Library Update.
Changelog for the smaller Library Update.
Best,
Paul
Paul,
I guess I know where my confusion originates from:
If I follow the e-mail instructions, there are 4 vsldownload files to apply (two Stereo and two Additional; or two SPv4 and two Update01).
But when I go to My Downloads area, I do not see Bösendorfer Imperial - Additional Mics Update 01 (Y18_Boesendorfer_Imperial_Additional_Update01_SPv1_w1.vsldownload) there.
It is completely missing from the Updates section.
This needs to be fixed!
Vlad
Hello everybody,
@VladKo: The problem is now fixed and you should see both update downloads correctly in your MyVSL account here: https://www.vsl.co.at/MyDownloads/SY_Library_Updates
@Pbest: The Updates only add very small changes while the V2 downloads exchange big sample files. Please download and apply the main downloads too. A quick tip: you do not need to download everything again - only the replaced files as explained in this quick tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fNbobzNrgQ
Best regards - Andreas
Hi,
This is my first post in this forum. I have been a Synchron Piano user for a few months now, and I am really enjoying these fine pianos.
I recently installed these updates to the Bösendorfer Imperial, and I have a question. I experienced the panning issues with Mid 1 before updating, and can confirm the update fixed this. However, when I check Mid 2 after the update, I am still getting notes panned much more randomly than with Mid 1 when playing a chromatic scale. Is this normal, or am I the only one? I am sure others could notice this easily.
I did not check the Mid 2 closely before the update, but I still have the old samples on a backup and could compare if necessary.
Best regards,
Dr. Groove
I noticed that there is a Bösendorfer Imperial Stereo mics update O1 v2 release on 7/8.
I don't see a changelog for the v2 update. What does it fix? Thanks.
David
Yes, no, maybe so?
VSL?
I was wondering the same thing.
A part of me is still hoping that the close1 panning issues will be looked at.
Hello David B,
Please check the explanation by Andreas8420 right above your posting.
v2 contains those all-new samples.
@cuzzinlouie: Those minimal discrepancies are caused by the piano braces that sometimes "obstruct" the sound a tiny bit when capturing with the close mics.
Best,
Paul
Hi Paul,
I have no doubt that there is a valid reason for the panning shifts, but that does not mean that these cannot be adjusted, in my opinion.
I would not mind doing it myself, but we as users don't have access to per-key panning.
I like the sound of close1 very much, but because of the panning issues I avoid playing it.
Thank you
Hi Paul,
There is indeed such a thing as mic shadowing, whereby the mic's "field of view" can be partially obstructed, but this can only yield such an audible effect if the obstructing object is within few centimeters from the mic. More importantly, there would need to be a transition between affected and non-affected keys, just as a shadow has blurry edges. I would venture a guess and say that the close1 mics where not even that close to the strings because I don't hear a proximity effect (as I do on the tube mic), so they must have been at least 40-50 cm from the soundboard.
Whatever the cause, whether shadowing, phase cancellation or anything else, the result is simply not desirable, so why not fix it?
If the entire piano is sampled all at once, there is indeed nothing that can be done per key, neither volume nor panning, but that's not the case here.
Thank you for fixing mid1 and mid2, but here too you've initially suggested that these have not been manipulated. In this case mic shadowing could not have been the cause because of the bigger distance to the braces. Maybe whatever caused the mid1 and mid2 panning issues also affected close1?
As a side note, I listen to a lot of piano music, jazz and classical, old and modern, and I don't remember ever hearing such panning side effects where, for example, A2 is farther to the left than A1, as it's the case with close1. Maybe you have a few examples?
Thank you
Hello David B,
Please check the explanation by Andreas8420 right above your posting.
v2 contains those all-new samples.
I'm not referring to the large sample updates, but the smaller Bösendorfer Imperial Stereo mics update O1 v2 release on 7/8. It's only 1.5 KB and came out a week after the original update. Thanks.
God Bless,
David
