I'm so happy because I've for the longest time tried to figure out how to make my sound libraries sound more satisfying, the way I want them to, reverberant, yet crystal clear and with a sound that translates well between different types of speakers with different sound profiles. My progress has been incremental but I feel like I've made some huge progress since I started. I recently bought one of Mike Verta's masterclasses (template setup) which has helped me tremendously, not only by providing me with knowledge that I was missing, but by training me to better differentiate between how something realistically sounds in different levels of depth, and learning about how they ought to sound in terms of frequency in relation to depth. I'm still very much a novice though in this regard.
Here I'm just playing around with different notes on the keyboard. The library I've been using for this purpose as of late is Adventure Brass from Musical Sampling. I'm using the Teldex Hall IR in altiverb 7 and I've been using this track as a reference:
Some of the parts I forgot to de-quantize if they sound a bit.. off. Like the Zelda part..
So what do you think? What can I improve further? How does it sound on your speakers? Clear? Muddy? I've learned the hard way that the sound you hear can vary a lot between speakers/monitors which is why I started 'researching' this in the first place.
Update: Uploaded a second file, but the mix/ER/tail settings are somewhat different. It has a thicker timbre I think. Unfortunately I forgot to alter the modwheel this time when recording, so it's in a set velocity. I'll add another one later for comparison. Which one do you think sounds better?
Thanks for reading!
