  • Help...How Do I do this with Porta VLNS?

Could someone tell me how to make sure that when my Porta Vlns enter, they don't enter with a slide? Sometimes I start a phrase with normal Leg Vlns, then in the middle of the phrase need to play two notes on the Porta Vlns, and that first note should be normal, but I keep getting a "slide" when I hit that first note.

Is there where "ghost" notes come in? I've never used them and might need some direction here...thanks so much...

  • It happens. The tool can get confused, especially when re-racking Logic playbacks. The ghost function doesn't enter into it.

(I'm assuming that you're certain that the fresh notes do not have other notes still paying behind them.)

To reset manually, it's EXS plug-in > edit > VSL > edit (perf-leg should be checked already)> click reset.

I'm told that the perf-leg instument will reset if you just tap the space bar on the assigned track, but I've never really tried this consistently.

  • Hi Tom,

which version of the Performance Tool are you using? On which operating system?

We have not experienced any "hanging" notes or similar with V 2.1.1 of the Performance Tool....

Concerning the Ghost Function Key: Yes, that will be the right choice to switch between 2 articulations.

BUT with the arrival of our GS3 art-files , available in our user area (=>updates=>ART Files (GS3)) that system is obligatory, as you can use the MODWheel with a combination Performance Legato to switch between, e.g., Legato and Portamento (this feature is a VERY good reason to upgrade to GS3, in my opinion...).

Anyway, with GS 2.54, hereĀ“s the trick with the Ghost Function Key: As long as you press it, you donĀ“t hear any of the notes you play, BUT the Performance Tool "remembers", which note you played last, so that you get the transition sound from your "muted" note to your target note, when you leave the Ghost Function Key (of course you still have to play legato!).

This can also be helpful if you want to start with, e.g., a crescendo and then go on with a Performance Legato.

To switch between Legato and Portamento on 2 MIDI tracks, copy the melody you played (in "normal" Performance Legato) to another track that triggers the Performance Portamento.

Find out, which transitions you want to be played with portamento.

For the concerned intervals, erase the target note in the Legato track.

In the Portamento Track, leave JUST the portamento intervalls (erase all other notes) available and place a Ghost Function Key right before the starting note of your portamento intervall.

ThatĀ“s it. I know, it sounds a little complicated, when you have to read it, but give it a try, itĀ“s worth it. These are some of the basic applications that are also shown in our Video Tutorials.

    All the best, Paul
