Dumb newbie question

I have the Synchron player up, loaded making nice sounds. But how do I set the midi input so that I can play it from my real keyboard rather than just the virtuial keyboard of the plugin? Can't figure it out from tutorials/the manual.

Hi Jan, 

Did you check that you have the right settings in your Standalone Synchron Player (the "wrench" button in the lower right corner gets you to the Standalone Settings)?

Thanks for the tip, I’d already blundered my way to it. An awkward piece of design, having to set the midi channel in standalone to use the plugin. The standalone is something I’d never use and I suspect many others are the same. Ought to be a switch for it in the plugin.

But I'm afraid I can't follow... where did you have to set the MIDI Input, and which OS are you working with?

I’m in Windows and I believe I set the midi input in Settings in the Standalone. Then the plugin was OK. Does that make sense? I’m happy with the outcome.

Hi Jan, 

Those settings should be assigned according to the audio settings on your Windows system. I'll check that again.

I’m a bit lost as this is my first experience with VSO. But I’m already longing for your oboe and clarinet. Not sure how Windows audio settings figure in this. I’m using Cubase 10 and most of my plugins run in Kontakt which allows you to set up midi input and audio output for each plugin. I wish VSO worked this way, would have saved me some aggravation. Overall though I’m more than satisfied. Sound quality of the plugins is exceptional comparable to Toontrack Superior 3 and it doesn’t get better than that IMO.

Hi Jan,

I thought you were refering to the Standalone Synchron Player...

The Synchron Player is mono-timbral by design, but you can use the included Vienna Ensemble Software as a host, which lets you insert as many Synchron Player instances as you like.

Does this offer any advantages over a full featured DAW, like Cubase 10? It seems kind of redundant.

Hi Jan,

Vienna Ensemble is "only" a host for VSL plug-ins, with very good multithreading options, which lets our sample players live in "one place".

Of course Vienna Ensemble Pro adds many new features there, keeping your samples loaded (also from 3rd party plug-ins), so that you can organize your templates very effectively. Could be worth a check with the free demo.
