  • Cubase 10 and Vienna Symphonic Library

    Hi,

While I wait for my Vienna Key to arrive, I'm trying to figure out how to set up my digital music-making workspace in the best way possible. What settings and strategies would be best employed to fully deploy and enjoy Vienna Symphonic Library's functionalities in Cubase 10?

Any hints or insights on the full-on integration of VSL with Cubase 10 would be much appreciated.

    All the best,
    Ant贸nio

PS: I'm running Cubase Pro 10 on macOS Mojave 10.14.5.

    Hi Ant贸nio,

as soon as the Vienna Key arrives, register your products on the key and just install all required software.
    (Download the installers from MyVSL)
After that start Cubase and insert the plugins in your project.

    Best, Ben

  • Thank you, Ben. For some reason, I must say I find the answer you give quite funny. It's basically: You want to enjoy VSL fully? This isn't Quantum Electrodynamics, just follow the instructions, that's it. My comment isn't depreciative in any way, please don't take it as such.

    All the best, Ant贸nio

  • Also get the Expression Maps for the libraries you plan to use.

  • Thank you, Bill. I've already downloaded them, it's one of the first things I did.

    Hi Ant贸nio,

I think my intention got lost by translation, sorry. I will try to give you a better answer, but feel free to ask if you have any questions left 馃槉
I'll give you a more verbose answer to give you all information you need to start as soon as your key arrives.

    Setup:
Until your ViennaKey arrives you can't use the instruments, but you could start downlaoding and installing all needed data / software.

LCC: If you use Cubase, you should already have the eLicenser Control Center installed on your system, but it is always a good idea to gt the latest version from Steinberg. This should add support for all new products that use ViennaKey and eLicenser technology.

Software: In our Software section under MyVSL download and install the "Download Manager", "Vienna Instruments & Vienna Ensemble", "Synchron Player" and "Synchron Piano Player".

Sample data: In the "Synchron Library Downloads" section download all library download files and open them with our Download manager. This will start the download of the compressed sample data. As soon as they are downloaded, you are prompted to install them (if not, just press the install button).

    License Registration:
As soon as the key arrives, conenct it to your computer, open the eLicenser Control Center and activate all your licenses one by one, by clicking on "Enter Activation Code" and inserting the activation codes (you can copy and paste them from the email).
It is also a good idea to register your ViennaKey to your VSL account here: https://www.vsl.co.at/en/MyVSL/MyKeys

Now you should be able to enjoy our instruments in Cubase.
As already mentioned by Bill there are also Expression Maps that you may want to use.

If you want to use the instruments in standalone mode, there are the Synchron (Piano) Player Standalone versions, but also the Vienna Ensemble which allows you to use multiple instruments at the same time.
Vienna Ensemble also can be used as plugin in Cubase. There is also a Pro version with more features, take a look at out Vienna Ensemble Pro 7. For example it has some of our great plugins from the Vienna Suite included.

A hint to the Concert D Lite piano that is included in the Synchronized SE Vol. 1: The piano can be used inside the Synchron Piano Player, but you won't see it in the Synchron Player.

A good start to quickly scetch a melody are the legato articulations.
Also take a look at the velocity crossfade and humanize detune features, as they add a lot of realism to the instruments.

    Best, Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Your first reply was perfectly fine. Besides, I had already done all the download and installation steps you outlined, the only key ingredient missing now is precisely the key. My original question was more of a "secrets of the trade" question, hence my humorous reply on following basic instructions (that are given in the MyVSL downloads page.)

You are here on the forum in a professional capacity, I'm sorry for this, for giving you the wrong impression.

    All the best, Ant贸nio

  • Hi,
