    With the full Concert D-274 library I find that the sound I like best alawys consists of the three close mics, plus one mid and one ambient mic. That makes for a total of five mics, which my system can handle fine as long as I'm avoiding heavy chords and fast passages. But throw a dynamic piece at it and it starts to crackle. I have already set the buffer to the maximum size I can tolerate for playing.

    Is it all within the realm of possibilities to offer the option to mix down our custom mic configurations into one stereo channel, to save resources?

    If not, would VSL be kind enough to provide a comperehensive writeup on how best to set the engine parameters (streaming threads, load size, etc.) as well as any other settings that might help reduce the load? For instance, I'm guessing that decreasing polyphony should help, but that is counter to my experience.

    For reference, my system is an 8th gen i5, 16 GB DDR4, samsung 970 Evo (internal) and RME Babyface pro. I can easily play three mics concurrently. Four is mostly okay. But five is very fragile. I would imagine there are enough users with lower spec-ed systems to benefit from the mix down option.

    Hi,

    If your system can't handle the load I would use less mics for recording / live playback.
    After that just use the DAW's freeze or offline mixdown functionality with all mics you need.
    Also disabling sympathetic resonance will get you more performance (set it to 0 dB).

    Tip: Save the different mic settings as presets (f.e. live playback and offline-mixdown/freeze).

    Regarding the sympathetic resonance, do you perhaps mean "-inf", or is 0 dB more efficient than "-inf"?

    Also, since you're with the tech team, can you speak to the effect of polyphony and number of voices per note on performance? setting a lower value doesn't seem to make any difference.

    Also, is there any relationship between the number of streaming threads and the number of physical and logical CPU cores?

    On a similar note, monitoring performance when playing the Synchron Piano, I noticed that the entire load seems to be handled by just one logical core. I have four physical cores and eight threads, but only one thread seems to be handling the load. Is there a setting somehwere I need to activate, or is the Synchron Piano not designed to exploit multi threading?

    Hi pampalini, 

    I may chime in here. 

    -inf is the default setting for Sympathetic Resonance. 

    The number of available voices works with a clever note-stealing system we apply when the limit is reached. 

    The number of streaming threads works dynamically with the available cores. 

    Which sequencer are you using the Synchron Pianos with? Did you try to host it in Vienna Ensemble / Pro yet? This should provide the best multithreading experience.

    You got me... Sorry, meant -inf of course ;)

    Try setting the Piano-Engine's Streaming Thread to the number of your physical cores.
    Also increase the Default Preload Size (this will load more into RAM so the load is lower during playback, but make sure you have enough free RAM).
