  • Crackles and pops

    I have both the cfx full and concert d full. I recently tried to lower my buffer size to 64 from 128. There is an unbearable amount of crackles and pops after lowering the buffer size. Does anyone know what I should do to eliminate it? This only happens when I play the synchron pianos.

    I had the same issue. Here are possible problems and solutions:

    - turn the preload size up in the Synchron Piano Player. This will consume more RAM. With 16GB you have to be carefull, because with high preload size the Synchron Pianos can exceed 16GB RAM. That may crash your computer.

    - make sure only the services and apps you need are running in the background

    - monitor your CPU load in the windows task-manager. If the load is over near 100% whenever the pops and clicks happen, you should consider upgrading your CPU.
    You can also try: Ryzen CPUs perform better when you use all RAM channels. Make sure you use more then one RAM stick.
    Overclocking the CPU may help.

    - Check your system latency with LatencyMon (https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon). If your DPC latency is high (yellow or even red), your system needs tweaking.

    In general Intel CPUs have higher IPC (instructions per clock: measures how many instructions are calculated per cycle) which leads to lower DPC. Also they are better for overclocking. Therefore most DAW powerusers are using Intel CPUs.
    The new Ryzen CPUs that are coming this year may deliver comparable performance to Intel CPUs in audio workloads. But we have to wait until first test results are published.

  • Turns out I have 32gm of rams. 

    -I'm sorry. I tried to find where to increase the preload size, but I can't find it. Where is it??

    -Windows task manager shows that my cpu isn't passing 15%. The cpu meter in synchron piano, on the other hand, shows a peak when I play too many notes. The timing of the peak and pops matches, so I guess cpu is the issue here.

    -My system latency seems fine.

    -Lisa Su from AMD is announcing the 3000 series as I am writing this, so maybe it's time to change...

    You can change the Preload size in Synchron Piano's Preferences => Database. 

    Of course higher latencies will also improve performance (you could record/perform with one of the performance-friendly room-mix presets and then choose the right preset for your mix later on).

  • There is no 'database' section in preference. There is only 'General', 'Audio/midi', and 'Plugins'.

    Is preload size the same as buffer size? If it is, I've mentioned that I'm trying to lower it, not increase it.


  • In the piano player manual, page 29 is a screenshot. Look for marker number 5.
    This does not effect the audio buffer but the size from the samples that will be cached in RAM. This uses more RAM but your computer has more time to pick up the rest of the sample from SSD during playback.

  • I changed my preload size to 16384 and no more cpu peaks! Ram looks fine. Thank you very much.
