I got a gig requiring a track in his style (Survivor, Fear Factor). Any tips on how to get his sound as well as any production info (reverb, mix etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

I believe he uses the VSL but his percussion are a big trademark of his. I'm not talking about the ethnic stuff but rather his orchestral style writing, toms, bass drums, timpanis. Are those custom made too?
