  • Sibelius 8, soundset and solo strings

    Hello,

I can not, with the Sibelius Soundsets available on the site, to activate the reading using the solo strings. I only managed with the VE special edition (less complete). I also prefer to go through VI pro (not VE).

How to run the soundsets for the solo string with VI pro? I did, however, read the document on the soundsets.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Hello Claude Marc!

It is recommended to activate Vienna Ensemble (Pro) inside Sibelius, because you can use multiple instruments on multiple channels this way. If you just activate Vienna Instruments or Vienna Instruments Pro, there's only one channel. You can use Vienna Instruments Pro inside Vienna Ensemble.

In order to get a better picture of your Solo Strings problem, please describe in detail what you have done and what's happening. Maybe you can attach some screenshots, so I can see what you see.

You have written that you have read the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual. Is there anything unclear for you in this manual?

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

I write a piece for solo violin, so I do not think VE is necessary. For me, it's a useless instance.

To return to the soundsets of solo strings I-II, the only configuration offered goes through VE (if I'm not mistaken). But I accept, even if it forces the opening of Vienna Mir, which makes VE + VI pro + Vienna Mir, which weighed down the system. VI pro can do it all alone with his reverb.

On the other hand, as I have already said, it is sad that Vienna abandons French manuals. Especially for complex software like Vienna Mir, whose configuration and the English manual discourage me.

In any case everything is beautiful for the solo string, thank you.

  • Hello Claude!

Thanks for your feedback. If you only have one instrument in your score, you can activate Vienna Instruments (Pro) directly. You don't need Vienna Ensemble for that. That's true.

I'm sorry that we can't offer French manuals in general. Google Translate might be of help.

Our video tutorials may also be of help. Even though they are in English, you can see how the software is used.

  • I write with Google translate, of course.

Another question: to add the Solo strings violin (once the VSL script rule is installed), which one to choose? There is no matching name for solo strings in your list. It requires the complete correspondence of the joints of solo string I-II.

  • Hello Claude!

I'm not sure, if I understand your latest question. If you are asking which Sibelius instrument to choose for Solo Strings from the "Add or Remove Instruments" menu, here's your answer.
    Solo Violin
    Solo Viola
    Solo Violoncello
    Solo Contrabass

To switch to the muted articulations of Solo Strings II, create the Technique Text command “con sordino” or “mute”. To switch back to senza sordino playing, use one of the following Technique Text commands: “ord.”, “natural”, “normal” or “senza sordino”.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thank you Andi. With the configuration via VE, nomenclature is clear. With VI pro directly, there were instruments that bore the mention VSL between brackets (Appasionatta, chamber, etc.), others not. The solo violin, no, the solo violin 2, yes. So, some inconsistency of the nomenclature in the descriptions. But the problem is solved with VE, thanks.
