  • Sibelius, SE and drums

    Hello!

I use Sibelius and SE. When I try to make the percussion instruments work there seems to be flaws. The instruments "drums", "cymbals" and "percussion" have no sound id. Ok, I can load and assign instruments manually. But when I chose an instrument in Sibelius I find one called "drums". The notation is totally all over the place. I can of course fix this also. But Sibelius is very tiresam to work with here so I'd rather avoid it. Is there a instrument with a proper notation that I can use? The rest of the integrationsSibelius-VSL SE works wonderfully. So it's a shame this doesn't, as far as I can see.

  • Hello Jan-Erik!

The Percussion instruments should also work without the need of making any additional set up. It's normal that drum map programs like "Percussion", "Cymbals" and "Drums" show no Sound ID on the Manual Sound Sets page.

The Sibelius instruments "Percussion [5 lines]" and similar will not work. Please use the dedicated instruments like "Snare Drum", "Triangle" and so on.

I'm not sure what you mean with "The notation is totally all over the place". The notation should look as you have entered it. Or could it be that you have imported a MIDI file? This may indeed look strange, but has nothing to do with our software.

  • Hello!

"The notation is totally all over the place". The notation thing is in Sibelius, how you insert in step time on percussion staves. There are two options.

So, it works nicely with percussion instruments now. Except one small thing. If I insert a hairpin for a crescendo, on a snare roll, it doesn't play back. On other instruments like violin the "Exp" of course takes care of that. Can I solve this?

  • Hello Jan-Erik!

Hot to use Velocity X-Fade for percussion rolls is explained in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual, page 25.
