    Hello all!

    I've been thinking of ways to set up a full orchestra template, and I realize I will often be triggering the same samples simultaneously (2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 trumpets, etc).

    One idea I had was shifting the instrument up/down a half step(or whole step) in VI pro when needed, then using sibelius' pitch bend to correct the pitch. I'm not sure if this will work however, because I heard you need to apply the transposition in VI pro to each and every patch, rather than to the entire instrument.

    Please let me know if you guys know any creative solutions to this problem!

    For anyone else wondering, yes, this does work! You just have to set the transposition for every cell in the matrix to 1 (up a semitone) and add the following expression text to the corresponding staff in sibelius "~-B0,32" , which will lower everything back down a semitone. Be warned that all instruments corresponding to that sibelius staff in VI pro will have their pitch lowered by a semitone! If you are doing the transposition trick, it is necessary to transpose up by a semitone in VI pro first to change the sample, or else the pitch will be off.

     

    I haven't had the chance to yet, but I would also like to experiment with changing the "Master Tune" for the necessary instrument by 100 cents, which is equivalent to a semitone. This would bypass needing to change the transposition for every cell of the instrument in VI pro, but I'm not sure if it actually changes the samples that are triggered.

    How about just using the pitch bend fader in VI?  You can set it up so that it will bend the pitch by only a semitone up or down.  Then just MIDI learn the fader to a controller on your keyboard and bend the notes when you want to or just leave the fader in the up or down position.
