  • What is included in MIR Pro?

Hi there. The web site doesn't state it - or I just couldn't read/see - but what IRs are included with MIR Pro?

EDIT: Oh, let me guess, it's this: https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Vienna_Software_Package/Vienna_MIR_PRO#!Venue_Previews

  • In MIR Pro there are no IRs included. You need to buy MIR Pro + the RoomPack(s) you want/need.

  • Really? What a strange monetization model. As they know on the streets, the first one's always free, to drag poor souls in, et cetera.

Anyway, off-topic: I was also surprised by how difficult it is to install the demo IRs - whichever's the reason. After about a dozen or so redownloads/installs, reading how my download files were corrupted and/or non-existent DVD drive malfunctioning, I finally gave up and decided to take another route towards testing and the current project completion. It might cost a little more, but it is what it is.

Yes, I sent a message to support as well, I'm not leaving it as is. :-)

    Welcome Lowland!

I understand your astonishment, but please look at it this way: MIR Pro is the sampler engine, the "RoomPacks" (a.k.a. MIR Venues) are the samples that can be played by the engine. You can decide which samples (read: impulse responses) you actually want to hear. 😊

In the early days of MIR the software came bundled with RoomPack 1 (Vienna Konzerthaus), but some users complained that they would prefer to buy all components separately, so that's what we got!

    Kind regards,

Since you use the example of a sampler, I must admit I am having a rather difficult time coming up with a current software sampler that is sold without any kind of factory library.

Of course, you could argue it is advantageous that the user can pick the room pack and isn't stuck with unwanted impulse responses, especially considering the price of additional room packs.
However, I would have thought creating and including at least a simple "factory" room pack with MIR Pro for free would have been a good idea, because currently people who buy only MIR Pro basically own a useless product.

Now, I know all this is mentioned on the website, and frankly it doesn't concern me much, since I purchased the complete room pack bundle together with MIR Pro. I am also happy to say all room packs are useful, especially in conjunction with the VIs.
But I can completely understand why people checking the VSL webshop for the first time feel this is a rather strange business model.

Just imagine NI suddenly deciding to ship Kontakt without a factory library and claim "you can decide which samples you actually want to hear". People would probably not be very happy.

Well, the obvious difference is that the products you listed are all free, while the current price of MIR Pro is 645 Euros.
The equivalence of this business model would be to make MIR Pro (or at least Mir Pro 24) free and only charge money for the room packs.

  • You can wait for the next MIR Pro sale and buy MIR Pro + one RoomPack for about the same price ;)

I hear what you're saying, but as a matter of fact people weren't too happy when MIR came with RoomPack 1 as integral part of the license either. 8-/ ... "Win some, lose some", I guess. 😉
